Learning & Community Mentor / 1:1 Support Person North Vancouver, BC | $30–$40/hour | Part-time, ongoing I’m an Educational Coordinator supporting a North Vancouver family as they build a small, collaborative home-learning team for their almost 11-year-old son. We’re looking for a warm, dependable Learning & Community Mentor who can become a consistent, trusted person in his life. This is not a traditional nannying, teaching, or tutoring role. Connection comes first. About the Role The role combines relationship-building, interest-led learning, community experiences, and individualized support. A typical session might include: * Outdoor adventures, sports, and movement * Exploring parks and community spaces * Creative projects and shared interests * Everyday life skills and independence * Supporting communication and self-expression * Gently incorporating academic learning through natural experiences He is autistic, minimally speaking, and has apraxia. His family values a neurodiversity-affirming, low-demand approach that respects his autonomy, communication, and individual pace. The family is also exploring Spelling to Communicate (S2C). Openness to learning about different communication approaches and participating in training is important. Who We’re Looking For Someone who is: * Warm, patient, playful, and genuinely interested in building a relationship * Comfortable with flexible, child-led learning * Enthusiastic about outdoor activities, movement, and community outings * Respectful of autonomy and different communication styles * Reliable, collaborative, and open to feedback * Willing to learn alongside the child and his support team Experience with autistic or neurodivergent children is an asset, but formal teaching credentials are not required. A valid driver’s licence is required. Team Support You’ll work collaboratively with the child’s parents, Educational Coordinator, educational program, and existing support team. You will not be responsible for independently developing or managing the curriculum. The learning plan and guidance will be provided, with room for your creativity, observations, and ideas.
