Atlantic First Nation Tech Services (AFNTS)


Location:
It is possible for this position to be located in one of the communities

served by AFNTS, with the agreement of the community. A remote work

arrangement would also be considered. Ability and willingness to travel to

communities in the Atlantic provinces and a valid driver's license are

required.


Language:
English Required. Knowledge of Mi’kmaq, Wolastoqiyik, or Innu


language and culture is an asset.






Preference will be given to candidates who are First Nation.

Client Service Results:


The position of Network Project Coordinator for Atlantic First Nation Tech Services and Mi’kmaw Kina’matnewey is part of the AFNTS Network Team. They are primarily responsible for coordinating the expansion and supporting the ongoing operation of the Atlantic First Nation Fibre Network. This expansion project will scale our network by adding 30-35 band operated buildings annually.


Summary of Duties:


Primary Responsibilities:



  • Be the main point of contact for all parties involved in network expansion including: Band management, on-site contacts, 3rd party contractors, vendors, internally (MK), etc

  • Maintain accurate budgets in accordance with funding guidelines

  • Learn about the needs of member communities and incorporate them into the project when feasible.

  • Draft reports and other documents required for project follow-up.

  • Plan human and material resource requirements in line with objectives

  • Draw up and monitor completion schedules via project management software

  • Assign tasks to network team members, taking into account their respective skills and schedules

  • Organize, coordinate and monitor subcontractor schedules

  • Organize and lead regular update and follow-up meetings for each project

  • Keep management and team members informed of progress

  • Ensure the quality of services offered meets community expectations

  • Develop documents or other means of promoting projects

  • Maintain good relations with project partners

  • All other duties as required

  • Implement network hardware refresh strategy

  • Maintain accurate records of network assets

  • Collect and maintain accurate fibre plant diagrams

  • Plan for future network needs

  • Monitor network performance, share recommendations for improvement


Education/Experience:


Requirements:



  • Knowledge of common enterprise networking hardware

  • Valid driver’s license, as position may include some travel

  • Ability and willingness to travel to communities in the Atlantic provinces - at times, travel can be weekly


Assets:



  • Project management experience

  • Experience using project management software

  • Experience working with Indigenous communities and/or organizations

  • Comfortable working within Google Workspace environment

  • Knowledge of outside plant fibre infrastructure

  • Other relevant educational and experiential learning and experience may be considered.
