Position Type: Temporary

Duration: Approximately six (6) months

Together, let's do great things!

We're a financial services co-operative with an expansive reach on Vancouver Island, the Gulf and Discovery Islands, and North Central BC. Joining us is your chance to work, and do good, locally. We are looking for a Quantitative Risk Analyst to support the development of advanced risk measurement, analytics, and quantitative research capabilities across the organization. If you have a passion for data, mathematics, statistical analysis, and solving complex problems, we'd like to hear from you.

**What's the role?**

As a Quantitative Risk Analyst, you will work closely with the Chief Risk Officer to conduct quantitative research, support analytical model development, and apply data-driven approaches to risk management challenges.

Using statistical, mathematical, and analytical techniques, you will help evaluate risk measurement methodologies, analyze complex datasets, and support informed decision-making across the organization.

Your primary responsibilities include:

Conducting research and literature reviews related to statistics, probability theory, risk measurement, and quantitative analysis.

  • Supporting the testing, evaluation, and enhancement of analytical models and risk measurement methodologies.
  • Performing exploratory data analysis, hypothesis testing, simulation modelling, and quantitative research.
  • Assessing model performance through sensitivity testing, scenario analysis, and analytical validation techniques.
  • Collecting, cleaning, validating, and analyzing large and complex datasets.
  • Evaluating data quality and identifying limitations that may impact analytical results.
  • Developing data visualizations, reports, and analytical outputs to communicate research findings.
  • Maintaining documentation related to data sources, methodologies, assumptions, calculations, and analytical frameworks.
  • Supporting risk-related investigations and analytical initiatives across multiple business and risk disciplines.
  • Assisting with presentations, reports, and briefing materials that summarize analytical findings and recommendations.
  • Participating in strategic projects that enhance Coastal Community's risk analytics and risk measurement capabilities.

**What are we looking for?**

  • Completion of a diploma or university degree in a related discipline. Education in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Finance, Data Analytics, Computer Science, Business Analytics, or a related analytical field is preferred.
  • Minimum three years of experience in quantitative analysis, data analytics, statistical analysis, research, data science, finance, economics, actuarial science, engineering, risk management, or a related analytical field.
  • Experience conducting quantitative analysis, statistical modelling, data analysis, research, or analytical problem-solving activities.
  • Knowledge of statistics, probability, mathematical modelling, risk measurement, and data analysis techniques.
  • Experience using analytical tools such as Python, SQL, R, Power BI, Excel, or similar technologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze complex information and communicate findings effectively.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, technical writing, and documentation skills.

Ideally, you are a curious and detail-oriented analytical professional with:

  • Strong quantitative reasoning and critical thinking abilities.
  • Experience working with large datasets and statistical analysis techniques.
  • The ability to translate complex quantitative concepts into practical business insights.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to explain technical findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • A high degree of intellectual curiosity and a passion for continuous learning.
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
  • A collaborative approach and willingness to contribute across a broad range of analytical initiatives.

If you enjoy working with data, testing assumptions, exploring complex problems, and helping organizations make better decisions through analysis, you'll be a great fit with us.
