Key Responsibilities

  • Perform basic mechanical repairs and adjustments within the apprentice’s level of training and authorization.
  • Assist with dismantling, repairing, replacing, assembling and testing mechanical components.
  • Support equipment installations, relocations, modifications and improvement projects.
  • Assist with machinery alignment, levelling, adjustment and set-up.
  • Participate in production-equipment changeovers and start-up checks when required.
  • Lubricate machinery and replace worn or damaged components as directed.
  • Learn to read and interpret equipment manuals, mechanical drawings, diagrams and manufacturer specifications.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, measuring devices and maintenance equipment safely and correctly.
  • Assist the maintenance team in responding to equipment breakdowns and production interruptions.
  • Notify the Maintenance Supervisor of equipment conditions that could affect safety, food safety, product quality or production.
  • Complete preventive-maintenance tasks and work orders accurately and on time.
  • Record completed work, observations, parts used and follow-up requirements in the company’s maintenance-management system.
  • Assist with monitoring maintenance supplies, replacement parts and tool inventory.
  • Maintain tools, maintenance areas and workspaces in a clean, safe and organized condition.
  • Follow all company safety policies, including lockout/tagout, machine guarding and personal protective equipment requirements.
  • Follow Good Manufacturing Practices, food-safety programs, allergen controls and sanitation requirements.
  • Participate in apprenticeship, technical, safety and food-safety training.
  • Perform other maintenance-related duties appropriate to the apprentice’s education, experience and level of training.
