Novice Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) Trenton Emergency Room

Position Summary

The Trenton Emergency Department (ED) is a dynamic unit catering to Trenton and nearby communities. Our Interdisciplinary team of Physicians RNs RPNs NPs and PAs collaborates to provide comprehensive patient care. Our robust orientation program including mentorship and in-class learning empowers ER team members to expand their scope of practice critical thinking leadership and nursing skills.
Despite being a medium-volume ED we handle diverse patient acuity levels and conduct regular interhospital transfers for advanced care. Thriving in a fast-paced environment self-confidence and teamwork are key attributes we value. Effective communication with patients families and the interdisciplinary team is crucial along with a commitment to continuous learning.

Required

Current Certificate of Registration in good standing or eligible for registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario.
Completion of Coronary Care or equivalent (eg. previous Cardio Concepts QH) or willing to register to an eligible course within 60 days and completion within 6 months of commencement of position (or mutually agreed upon dates).
ACLS or a minimum Current CPR BLS or BCLS certificate.
Minimum 1-year recent acute care experience in an acute medical or inpatient surgical department or emergency department experience.
Capable of coping with a physically demanding workload. (PDA available to review)
Must have a satisfactory Criminal Record / Vulnerable Sector Check.

Duties

Provision of care for patients within an interprofessional environment including assessment treatment teaching and education.
Performs acts requiring specialized knowledge skills and judgement necessary for care of acute medical patients.
Teaching and coaching to patients and families.
Maintains nursing records in accordance with College of Nurses Standards.
Practicing in compliance with provincial legislation hospital policy and procedures professional regulatory standards and best practices within the nursing profession.
Maintaining professional competence by completing regular professional development including annual training and education as indicated.
Participates in unit/dept. and hospital quality improvement initiatives.
Adheres to a safe and healthy workplace and maintains a safe and healthy work environment through attendance at educational programs use of established mechanisms for injuries and hazards and adheres to health and safety related policy and procedures.
Adapts and adheres to the values of QH while promoting and advocating for an enhanced patient experience.
Other duties as assigned.
