Opportunity
Stantec has an immediate need for an Electrical Designer to work within a multi‑discipline team environment to design efficient and reliable electrical systems for infrastructure, transportation and transit projects. The successful candidate will assist the Senior Electrical Engineers and Project Managers in designing and executing infrastructure, transportation and transit electrification projects.
The electrical design will include normal and emergency power distribution systems, interior and exterior building lighting systems, roadway and street lighting systems, traffic signals design, EV charging station, extra low voltage systems such as fire alarms, telecommunication, security access control, CCTV system, instrumentation, SCADA system design and execution of various Transit/Transportation systems and infrastructure related projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in feasibility/strategic studies related to the electrification of public transit networks.
- Apply best practices and identify innovative solutions; carry out engineering analyses and studies.
- Design electrical substations, including equipment specification and grounding system design.
- Design electrical vehicle charging stations.
- Prepare technical memos and reports to communicate results and recommendations.
- Liaise with project team members and other stakeholders regarding project requirements.
- Prepare engineering design drawings, layouts and specifications including but not limited to single line diagrams, wiring diagrams, riser diagrams, protection systems, equipment lists, cable and panel schedules, emergency power distribution, etc.
- Perform lighting level calculations using lighting software such as AGi 32, AutoLUX, etc.
- Perform short circuit, arc flash and protective device coordination studies using ETAP (or similar) power systems analysis software.
- Conduct fieldwork including investigations, studies, and inspections for electrical systems.
- Apply electrical safety codes and regulations to area of expertise and ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards.
- Incorporate safety and risk analysis into equipment designs.
- Liaise with clients, government regulatory authorities and contractors.
- Work with minimum instructions and supervision; complete tasks independently; make decisions and take responsibility on technical matters with input from senior engineers and project managers.
- Coordinate with various disciplines and sub‑consultants to ensure the technical integrity of engineering design solutions delivered by other disciplines/teams on projects.
- Review progress and compliance construction with tender documents, including review of shop drawings.
Capabilities and Credentials
- Advanced knowledge of AutoCAD, MicroStation, electrical engineering modelling software such as ETAP, and AutoLUX/AGI32 lighting design software.
- Well acquainted with transportation and transit related project activities.
- Excellent organization and planning skills – document control and reporting.
- Demonstrated initiative, drive, leadership, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple projects within a fast‑paced environment.
Education and Experience
- Technologist diploma or bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering Technology from a reputed college or university.
- C.E.T. or eligible or Professional Engineer eligible [E.I.T] in the province of Ontario.
- Minimum five (5) years of progressive working experience in the field of electrical systems design, construction, transit and/or transportation system design and system integration.
Typical office environment: working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements, including inclement weather.

Pay Range
- Locations in Lower Mainland - BC, GTA & Ottawa Ontario: $78,900.00 - $114,400.00 annually.
