Java Full Stack Developer

Position Description:

CGI is seeking an experienced Java Full Stack Developer to join our team and contribute to the design, development, and support of modern enterprise applications. In this role, you will primarily develop scalable backend services using Java and Spring Boot while building responsive user interfaces using React, Next.js, TypeScript, and JavaScript. You will design and develop REST APIs, build cloud-native applications, integrate enterprise systems, and contribute to modern DevOps practices throughout the software development lifecycle. Working within an Agile environment, you will collaborate with architects, developers, product owners, and business stakeholders to deliver secure, high-quality software solutions that meet evolving business needs. This is a full-time permanent opportunity based in one of CGI's Atlantic Canada offices, including Halifax, NS; Moncton or Fredericton, NB; Stratford, PEI; or St. John's, NL, with a hybrid work model requiring three days per week onsite.

Your future duties and responsibilities:

• Design, develop, test, and maintain full-stack enterprise applications using Java, Spring Boot, React, Next.js, TypeScript, and JavaScript.
• Develop scalable backend services, REST APIs, and microservices using Java and Spring Boot.
• Build responsive and modern user interfaces using React, Next.js, and TypeScript.
• Design and implement application integrations using messaging technologies such as Kafka, MQ, Pub/Sub, Event Grid, and file-based integration patterns.
• Develop and optimize SQL and NoSQL database solutions, including MongoDB.
• Build and deploy cloud-native applications using Microsoft Azure or Google Cloud Platform.
• Develop and maintain containerized applications using Docker and Kubernetes.
• Support CI/CD pipeline development, automated deployments, and DevOps best practices using GitHub Actions, Bitbucket Pipelines, and Git-based source control.
• Develop automated unit, integration, contract, and end-to-end tests to ensure application quality and reliability.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies, code reviews, architecture discussions, and continuous improvement initiatives while promoting secure coding, clean architecture, and software engineering best practices.

Required qualifications to be successful in this role:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience developing enterprise applications using Java and modern full-stack technologies.
• Strong hands-on experience with Java and Spring Boot for backend application development.
• Experience developing front-end applications using React, Next.js, TypeScript, and JavaScript.
• Experience designing and developing REST APIs and microservices.
• Experience working with SQL and NoSQL databases, including MongoDB.
• Experience integrating applications using messaging technologies such as Kafka, MQ, Pub/Sub, Event Grid, or file-based integration patterns.
• Experience working with cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure or Google Cloud Platform.
• Experience with container technologies including Docker and Kubernetes (AKS or GKE).
• Experience using Git-based source control and CI/CD tools such as GitHub Actions or Bitbucket Pipelines.
• Experience working in Agile software development environments using Jira and Confluence.
• Strong understanding of software engineering best practices, including clean architecture, Domain-Driven Design (DDD), secure coding, testing, and technical documentation.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.

Assets
The following qualifications would be considered assets:
• Experience with Python for backend development or automation.
• Experience with Node.js or NestJS.
• Experience with Azure Functions, Cloud Run, or other serverless technologies.
• Experience developing automated tests using Playwright or Selenium.
• Experience building event-driven or distributed systems.
• Experience working within financial services or other highly regulated industries.

CGI is providing a reasonable estimate of the pay range for this role. The determination of this range includes factors such as skill set level, geographic market, experience and training, and licenses and certifications. Compensation decisions depend on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $75,-$, CAD. This role is an existing vacancy.
