Summary:

The communications coordinator supports the College of Medicine's strategic communication priorities by assisting in the development, coordination, and dissemination of internal and external communications. The role involves creating and distributing a wide range of content including website updates, social media, news stories, promotional materials to engage internal and external audiences. This position helps provide consistent messaging, brand alignment, and timely delivery of content across various platforms. The communications coordinator works collaboratively with communications professionals, faculty, staff, learners and external partners to help promote programs, events and achievements through storytelling and communications campaign support. The role will support initiatives across the college, with a key focus on rural medicine and expansion-related priorities.

Nature of Work:

The communications coordinator contributes to the development and implementation of innovative, effective and reliable internal and external communications for the College of Medicine, with a focus on rural medicine and other strategic priorities. This position reports to the college of medicine communications team lead and is part of a larger team of embedded college communicators. The coordinator will work closely with the Associate Dean of Rural Medicine and the Saskatchewan Longitudinal Integrated Clerkship (SLIC) Director to create and operationalize a rural medicine communication strategy.

The coordinator will be a highly motivated and creative professional who thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. The work requires a proactive and strategic approach in a complex environment and the ability to communicate effectively to diverse audiences. Establishing and maintaining positive relationships is essential to success. Flexibility will be required occasionally for work outside of normal operating hours and travel within Saskatchewan is required.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Contributes to the development and execution of integrated communications and marketing plans aligned with college, school or unit priorities
  • Drafts, edits, and distributes content to support communications and marketing plans such as website updates, social media, internal and external communications and monitors engagement metrics
  • Develops and implements communications tactics that support rural medicine, distributed medical education and college expansion initiatives
  • Captures and coordinates photography and videography for use across digital, social media, web and print platforms, including travel to regional and rural sites as required
  • Assists in managing photo and video assets, including organizing archives and coordinating shoots
  • Supports the execution of communications campaigns and storytelling initiatives that highlight student success, faculty achievements, and institutional milestones
  • Adheres to branding and style guidelines in all communications
  • Provides logistical and administrative support for communications projects
  • Communicates and acts in a respectful and professional manner, collaborates effectively, abides by policy, and contributes to a positive and productive work and learning environment
  • Engages in continuous learning by participating in activities, training, and events related to Indigenous engagement, reconciliation, equity, diversity, inclusion and accessibility principles
  • Demonstrates respect and dignity for all members of the community, actively contributes to an environment of acceptance and inclusion of others, and responds to different perspectives from a place of curiosity, respect, and non-judgement
  • Undertakes related duties, as assigned, consistent with the nature of the position

Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, marketing, journalism, or a related field
  • Minimum of three years of experience in communications, marketing, or public relations
  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and content management systems
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Proven knowledge of marketing and communications best practices and ethics
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to think creatively
  • Strong attention to detail, critical thinking, and analytical skills
  • Effective organizational skills
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively as part of a team
  • Cultural awareness and professionalism in all communications
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and communications software tools such as Canva and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Photography skills would be an asset
  • Ability to travel within Saskatchewan to the college's distributed and rural sites occasionally and work outside regular hours as required
