Description

Job Responsibilities

  • Perform vehicle preventive maintenance to company standards.

  • Disassemble, clean, and re-install mechanical components in accordance to assigned work orders.

  • Safely use power and hand-held mechanic tools.

  • Able to perform most repairs without direct supervision.

  • Responsible for procuring parts for maintenance shop and maintaining inventory.

  • Move vehicles between job and work area.

  • Instruct other technicians in preventive maintenance techniques.

  • Communicate professionally with customers, supervisors and co-workers.

  • Additional responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High School Grad/GE Degree and 1 to 2 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

  • CDL Class B with Passenger and Airbrake endorsement (preferred).

  • Ability to regularly lift, carry, and position tools, equipment, and vehicle components weighing up to 75 pounds.

  • Must be able to read and comprehend written material and distinguish material such as service manuals, blueprints and electrical schematics.

  • Ability to distinguish chemical codes, gauges of wire, etc.... which are represented by color.

  • Requires extensive use of hands to perform mechanical repair, maintenance, and diagnostic tasks.

  • Demonstrates strong manual dexterity when removing, installing, and adjusting mechanical components, including nuts, bolts, screws, and other parts.

  • Performs frequent reaching and grasping activities, including overhead reaching while working on and beneath vehicles and equipment.

  • Safely and effectively operates a variety of hand and power tools, such as wrenches, screwdrivers, and vehicle maintenance equipment.

  • Uses tactile sensitivity and attention to detail to inspect components and identify wear, damage, or mechanical deficiencies.

  • Operates equipment and controls, including forklifts, vehicles, bus door systems, and communication devices, in accordance with safety and operational standards.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with coworkers, supervisors, and other stakeholders both in person and through two-way radio systems.

  • Strong verbal communication skills with the ability to receive, understand, and relay work-related information accurately.

  • Ability to hear and interpret normal speech in a variety of work environments.

  • Ability to identify and distinguish equipment and vehicle operating sounds, including engine, brake, and other mechanical noises, to assist in diagnosing and troubleshooting mechanical issues.

  • Capable of maintaining effective communication and situational awareness while working in active maintenance and operational environments.

  • Ability to perform effectively in occasional high-pressure situations, including roadside emergencies and service calls.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to respond quickly to unexpected operational issues.

  • Professional communication and customer service skills when interacting with the public during field service activities.

The Business Services Division (BSD) supports the individual and collective needs of the Penn community by promoting a hospitable, customer-friendly campus environment and providing mission-critical services and essential operations. Salary offers are made based on the candidate’s qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position, and in alignment with salary ranges based on external market data for the job’s level.
