Job description

At CBCL Limited, we are a successful, dynamic, and growing engineering and environmental consulting firm. We have an exciting opportunity for a Municipal/Civil Engineer to join our Municipal Department in our Halifax, Nova Scotia office! Bring your passion and skills to a collaborative team that thrives on delivering innovative, multidisciplinary design solutions. You’ll play a meaningful role in advancing municipal infrastructure projects that connect and support our communities, while building on your technical expertise in an environment that values initiative, collaboration, and client-focused delivery.

As our ideal candidate, you bring 5+ years of experience in municipal infrastructure and are ready to take ownership of design assignments, project coordination, and technical delivery. You have hands‑on experience with projects related to water transmission, distribution, pumping and storage; wastewater collection and pumping; and stormwater management. You are comfortable contributing technical insight within a multidisciplinary team, working with clients and stakeholders, and helping deliver practical, high-quality solutions for communities across Atlantic Canada.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Uphold Excellence: Prepare and review contract documents, applying sound technical judgment and quality control practices to maintain CBCL’s high standards;
  • Help Shape the Future of Municipal Infrastructure: Contribute to the design and planning of infrastructure projects for cities, towns, provincial/federal governments, industrial sites and developers;
  • Contribute and Collaborate: Contribute to project development and delivery through engineering calculations, design concepts, technical analysis, and coordination with client requirements and regulatory standards. Work closely with senior engineers and multidisciplinary teams to deliver effective, practical solutions;
  • Contribute to Site Operations: Complete site visits, field assessments, and infrastructure investigations. Provide technical input during construction, review contractor work for compliance, and contribute to resident engineering services as needed; and
  • Drive Project Success: Prepare technical reports, feasibility studies, design drawings, cost estimates, proposals, and tender documents. Coordinate project deliverables, communicate with clients and stakeholders, and contribute to successful project outcomes.

Other Related Duties as Required

  • Share technical knowledge with colleagues and contribute to project discussions, presentations, and internal learning opportunities;
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of tools, workflows, and design standards that support project efficiency and outcomes; and
  • Contribute to broader Municipal Group initiatives and identify opportunities to improve how we deliver services to our clients.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Educational and Professional Credentials: A bachelor's degree in civil engineering is required, with a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or eligibility for registration with Engineers Nova Scotia;
  • Experience: 5+ years of experience in municipal infrastructure design and project delivery, preferably within a consulting engineering environment;
  • Technical/Design Expertise: Experience contributing to the design and delivery of municipal infrastructure projects, with working knowledge of Atlantic Canadian regulations and municipal standards;
  • Communication & Client Engagement: Strong verbal and written communication skills to prepare technical reports, proposals, and presentations. Ability to liaise professionally with clients, stakeholders, regulatory bodies, and internal project teams;
  • Organized and Detail-Oriented: Proven ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently, maintain attention to detail, with the ability to thrive in a deadline-oriented environment; and
  • Team Player: A collaborative mindset and a passion for contributing to a positive team environment.

We encourage applications from candidates whose experience and skills align with the core requirements of the role, even if they do not meet every qualification listed.
