Job description

Marine Systems Specialist – Mechanical (Permanent)
Victoria, BC

Expected Salary: $70, to $85,
To determine final salary, Babcock considers a variety of factors including the successful Candidate’s skills and experience and internal equity. The final base salary offer is at the Company’s sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.

Description

In this role, you will:
• Report directly to the Waterfront Engineering Marine Systems - Team Lead and contribute to the successful delivery of technical deliverables.
• Prepare deviations and waivers for submarine mechanical equipment;
• Draft, and review repair specifications for submarine maintenance activities;
• Draft and review manufacture drawings for the fabrication of components and assemblies;
• Assess, document, and communicate risks associated with submarine engineering systems to both internal and external customers;
• Be responsive to Project Managers for dynamic program delivery requirements in a shipyard environment;
• Provide oversight on complex fault diagnostic activities and system operations; and
• Identify risks, impacts, mitigations, and opportunities.

The ideal candidate brings:
• You have strong technical skills including accredited post-secondary education in mechanical engineering and/or technology discipline (Diploma/Certificate or higher level)
• You are eligible or currently registered with a Provincial professional governing body such as Engineers and Geoscientists BC or Applied Scientists Technologists and Technicians BC as an Engineer-in-Training or Graduate Technologist or are currently eligible for registration
• You have 4+ years of experience in design or maintenance of marine systems such as hydraulics, high pressure air, diesel, and propulsion systems (submarine-specific experience is desirable)
• You have strong communication skills; written and verbal
• You have strong computer skills; including MS Office suite
• You have drafting experience with AutoDesk and Dassault Systems products
• You have experience with tasks requiring attention to detail
• You have experience working in a shipyard and knowledge of shipyard safe work practices
• Have the physical ability to climb and descend ladders and stairs to access work areas.
• Have the physical ability to walk and/or stand for extended periods.
• Have the physical dexterity to allow for working in confined spaces and areas with limited room for movement.
• Is comfortable working on scaffolding at heights and around water.
• Is comfortable working in an industrial environment and around moving equipment (forklifts, cranes, etc.).
• You are eligible for a Canadian Secret Security and ITAR Clearance
