Qualifications and Experience:
  • Degree in a Health Care Discipline; Masters’ level preferred
  • Registration with the Ontario professional College of discipline or eligibility to obtain
  • One year of progressively responsible experience in health care leadership, including administration of policies and procedures
  • Five (5) years of relevant clinical practice with target population, incorporating mental health practice and community health care, including demonstration of progressively responsible leadership
  • An equivalent combination of relevant education and experience, may be considered
  • Experience in supervision of inter-professional teams in a unionized environment preferred
  • Valid Ontario driver’s license, clear driver’s abstract and access to reliable means of transportation on a regular basis

Position Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Initiates recruitment of new staff for the assigned team, working with Human Resources to coordinate recruitment, interviewing, hiring and orientation of new staff, as needed
  • Coordinates staffing including assignment of duties; reviews and approves scheduling of staff to ensure appropriate coverage
  • Guides the professional development of staff including developing and implementing individualized orientation and learning plans and ensuring effective learning conversations with staff members as per policy
  • Manages performance of direct reports including, ongoing coaching, mentoring, counseling and/or disciplinary action, involving other relevant stakeholders as appropriate (i.e. Human Resources, Quality & Risk Management)
  • Resolves conflict and other labour relations issues, including grievance resolution, working through formal complaint/dispute resolution processes and administering the provisions of the applicable Collective Agreements
  • Develops and manages team goals/objectives consistent with definable service needs and team functions, adhering to the principles of Continuous Quality Improvement and ‘Best/Evidence Based Practices’
  • Develops, implements, maintains and evaluates structures and processes to ensure client-focused care such as, referral process according to admission criteria, triage mechanism, prioritization of clinical referrals, interprofessional intake, care planning, review meetings/conferences
  • Facilitates contributions of the team’s research to the professional knowledge base of the team
  • Utilizes evidence-based strategies to solicit input from community partners, ensuring the planning/ implementation and continuous development of the Team is based on provincial guidelines for the programs and incorporates the unique identifiers, needs and input of local community partners and local systems
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with local service providers, stakeholders and families, ensuring the provision of services for clients, incorporating their input into community development and program functions / activities
  • Ensures service provision is consistent with local/regional mental health system planning
  • Participates on community boards and committees as appropriate
  • Provides consultative services to community agencies, acute care hospitals and the public
  • Promotes and maintains client and staff safety by ensuring adherence to all relevant safety standards as required by the Program, Providence Care, and provincial regulations
  • Implements and administers all team, program and corporate policies and procedures
  • Collaborates with the Regional Director and Clinical Director in the development of team policies and procedures
  • Provides clinical leadership and supervision for the team, ensuring standards are maintained, seeking input from the psychiatrist and Professional Practice Leaders, as appropriate, leading interprofessional diagnostic and case planning rounds/conferences
  • Develops and manages the completion of bio-psychosocial assessments, ensuring the incorporation of all pertinent data for the implementation of appropriate intervention, support and care planning that is based on best practices and is reflective of a partnership with the client
  • Ensures an interprofessional approach to client-centered care within the team and fosters collaborative relationships with internal organizational and external community partners
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the Regional Director
