Job description
Overview Garmin Canada is seeking a full-time Senior Software Engineer/Developer to solve real-world connected-device problems in a collaborative, embedded-systems environment. The Connected Technologies division stewards ANT and BLE technologies across multiple Garmin business segments, including Fitness, Outdoor, and Marine. The BLE Applications team works directly with product teams and builds the infrastructure and tooling needed to enable compelling customer features in Garmin products, from battery constrained sensors to embedded Linux multipurpose displays for Marine navigation. As a platform team, we maintain shared code used by dozens of teams across diverse products, codebases, and development processes. You will work in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment, helping maintain and scale an always growing ecosystem of connected products. Essential Functions Design and develop reusable Bluetooth platform software with stable APIs, extensibility, and backwards compatibility for many different product lines Implement and maintain testable embedded software solutions, primarily in C/C++, on a variety of environments, including embedded Linux Define technical designs and make architecture trade-offs that balance feature delivery with long-term compatibility, maintainability, and support costs Drive compatibility and interoperability across Garmin devices, Android and iOS phones, third-party devices, and Bluetooth stack implementations; investigate and resolve complex integration issues Provide technical guidance and mentorship through peer code reviews and design reviews, with a focus on scalability, maintainability, and cross-team adoption Partner with product teams, developers, technical leads, and product managers to understand integration needs, drive adoption of shared platform components, and deliver robust features Basic Qualifications Bachelor of Science in Software Engineering or Computer Science or a relevant technical field from a four-year College or University OR an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience Cumulative GPA greater than 3.0 Minimum years experience: 5 Proficiency in writing software in C and C++ Collaborative software development in a team environment Software development with sound problem-solving and debugging techniques Desirable Qualifications Experience with Delivering backward compatibility and third-party compatibility in wireless product ecosystems Experience with Bluetooth SIG profiles, services, and GATT Experience with Bluetooth phone interoperability, including platform-specific behavior on Android and iOS Experience with Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), Bluetooth Classic, or comparable wireless, connected-device, or protocol platform development Experience with Bluetooth connection management, including pairing, bonding, reconnection behavior, and reliability tuning Experience with Working on projects with teams distributed across multiple sites Experience with working on multiple simultaneous development projects Experience with Developing and verifying low-power, constrained, or consumer-electronics systems Experience with designing software architecture and owning the technical direction, APIs, or long-term evolution of shared platforms Experience with delivering software that supports multiple products or teams with different codebases and development processes Experience with investigating and resolving complex software integration or interoperability issues Experience with Demonstrated technical leadership through architecture decisions, design reviews, or mentorship Ability to influence and support a variety of projects with diverse needs, balancing feature delivery with long-term compatibility, maintainability, and support costs Company Information At Garmin Canada, we create more than just products – we inspire solutions and innovations that change and shape how we live, work and play.
