Job Summary

The Roméo Dallaire Child Soldiers Initiative (Dallaire Initiative) was established in 2007 by retired Lieutenant-General the Honourable Roméo Dallaire, former Force Commander of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Rwanda (UNAMIR). Our mission is to develop new strategies and tactics to progressively end the recruitment and use of children as soldiers worldwide. As of April 2020, the Dallaire Initiative has now become the Dallaire Institute for Children, Peace and Security. Reporting to the Deputy Director Finance and Administration, the Finance and Admin Officerwill provide financial and administrative support in the day-to-day running of the Dallaire Institute’s Finance Department and Grant Department.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process invoices, expense claims, procurement requests, and other financial documentation in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Assist with account reconciliations, budget tracking, timesheet reviews, and the accurate allocation of expenses to funding sources.
  • Support field offices by reviewing financial information, maintaining records, and responding to routine finance-related inquiries.
  • Contribute to the preparation of financial reports, donor reports, audit documentation, and other reporting requirements.
  • Provide administrative and operational support for procurement, payment processing, and financial record-keeping activities.
  • Maintain accurate financial documentation and support continuous improvement of finance processes while ensuring compliance with organizational standards and guidelines.

Note

The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work from within Nova Scotia) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.

Required Qualifications

  • Diploma in a finance, accounting, or business administration related field, plus a minimum of two years’ of relevant experience (or an equivalent combination of training and experience).
  • Experience managing budgets and coordinating financial and administrative activities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize competing demands, meet deadlines, and work independently.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other business applications used for financial reporting and analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within multicultural, multilingual, and multidisciplinary teams, both in-person and remotely.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including fluency in English and Spanish.
