Role Summary

The Manufacturing Technology Specialist connects fabrication operations with the technology teams and vendors that support them. This role translates business needs into actionable requirements, coordinates system improvements, and helps ensure technology solutions effectively support shop floor operations and continuous improvement initiatives.

Why This Role Matters to Modern Niagara

Modern Niagara is investing in a new piping fabrication shop and the technology platform that will support it. The Manufacturing Technology Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring that technology solutions meet operational requirements and deliver value to the business. By connecting shop floor users with internal technical teams and external vendors, this role helps improve productivity, enhance system adoption, and support continuous improvement initiatives across fabrication operations.

Key Impact / Purpose

  • Bridge communication between fabrication operations and technology teams to ensure business needs are translated into effective solutions.
  • Support successful implementation and adoption of fabrication technology platforms and processes.
  • Improve operational efficiency by identifying opportunities for technology enhancements and process improvements.
  • Ensure priorities, feedback, and support activities are coordinated effectively across multiple stakeholders and support teams.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Business & User Partnership:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for shop supervisors, fabricators, and estimators regarding fabrication technology questions, issues, and enhancement requests.
  • Gather, document, and communicate business requirements for new features, system enhancements, and issue resolution initiatives.
  • Translate shop floor requirements into clear, actionable information for technical teams, vendors, and support partners.
  • Represent fabrication operations in planning and decision-making discussions with IT, Data & Analytics, and third-party vendors.
  • Communicate updates, priorities, timelines, and outcomes back to end users to ensure transparency and alignment.

Technology & Support Coordination:

  • Coordinate activities between the fabrication shop, internal IT, the Data & Analytics integration team, and external software vendors.
  • Track and manage open issues, enhancement requests, implementation activities, and support priorities impacting fabrication operations.
  • Escalate issues and help resolve competing priorities across multiple support teams.
  • Support prioritization of the fabrication technology roadmap and backlog in partnership with Data & Analytics leadership.
  • Prepare business context, open action items, and operational requirements for vendor and support team meetings.

Implementation & Change Support:

  • Support the rollout of new systems, enhancements, and process changes within the fabrication shop.
  • Coordinate user acceptance testing, training schedules, and go-live readiness activities with business stakeholders.
  • Partner with technical teams to support the development and delivery of training materials and user enablement resources.
  • Collect and triage user feedback following implementations and direct items to the appropriate technical owners.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Identify recurring process challenges, operational inefficiencies, and user pain points within fabrication operations.
  • Communicate improvement opportunities to IT, Data & Analytics, vendors, and system owners.
  • Maintain an understanding of fabrication technology roadmaps, capabilities, and system limitations.
  • Provide shop floor input into system configuration, process design, and future enhancement discussions.

Must Haves:

  • 5+ years of experience in a Business Analyst, Systems Liaison, Technology Coordinator, Product Owner, or similar role supporting manufacturing, ERP, or operational technology systems.
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing and ERP concepts including MRP, work orders, bills of materials (BOMs), inventory management, and production workflows.
  • Strong ability to gather, document, and communicate business requirements to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience coordinating across business users, technology teams, and third-party vendors.
  • Strong stakeholder management, relationship-building, and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, requests, and implementation activities simultaneously.
  • Ability to travel periodically to fabrication shop locations to support operations and maintain a firsthand understanding of business needs.

Nice to Haves:

  • Experience with NetSuite or comparable ERP platforms, including MRP and inventory management processes.
  • Familiarity with Trimble fabrication solutions such as FabShop, AutoBid Mechanical, or similar manufacturing execution systems.
  • Experience supporting warehouse management systems (WMS) or inventory-related technology initiatives.
  • Background in construction, mechanical or piping fabrication, industrial manufacturing, or make-to-order production environments.
  • Experience working alongside IT service desks, application support teams, software vendors, or implementation partners.
  • Exposure to product ownership, business analysis, or operational technology transformation initiatives.
