Position Overview

The Environmental Field Coordinator supports the execution of environmental assessment, permitting, and compliance field programs by coordinating day-to-day field activities, inspections, monitoring, and data collection in alignment with regulatory requirements and project standards. Working closely with consultants, contractors, and project teams, the role supports the implementation of environmental programs, oversees field schedules and procedures, and contributes to compliance with permits, environmental legislation, and health, safety, and environmental standards.

The Environmental Field Coordinator is responsible for supervising contractors, maintaining sampling and monitoring equipment, compiling and reporting field data, and supporting environmental awareness and compliance training. Working in a remote field environment, this role plays a key part in supporting project milestones while upholding organizational environmental and safety standards.

The Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to environmental stewardship, health and safety, and organizational values through leadership and professional conduct.
  • Coordinate environmental field programs that support regulatory approvals, permitting activities, and environmental studies throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Plan and organize field operations, including scheduling personnel, contractors, equipment, and resources to meet project objectives and regulatory commitments.
  • Monitor field activities to ensure compliance with environmental legislation, permit conditions, organizational policies, and safe work practices.
  • Perform routine site inspections and audits, identifying potential environmental risks and recommending corrective actions where required.
  • Coordinate and participate in environmental monitoring programs, including the collection, handling, and documentation of environmental samples.
  • Manage the selection, calibration, maintenance, and inventory of environmental monitoring and sampling equipment to ensure reliable field operations.
  • Prepare, review, and distribute daily, weekly, and project-specific environmental reports, documenting field progress, observations, and compliance activities.
  • Maintain accurate field records and oversee data management processes to support reporting, regulatory submissions, and project decision-making.
  • Review technical reports, monitoring results, and consultant deliverables to verify quality, completeness, and compliance with project requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance to project teams and contractors on environmental procedures, permit obligations, and industry best practices.
  • Oversee the performance of environmental contractors, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with contractual and regulatory requirements.
  • Facilitate environmental orientations and awareness sessions for employees, contractors, and visitors to promote compliance and environmental responsibility.
  • Analyze environmental monitoring data, identify emerging trends or potential compliance issues, and communicate findings with recommendations to project leadership.
  • Support change management initiatives by ensuring environmental impacts, risks, and mitigation measures are appropriately documented and communicated.
  • Foster collaborative working relationships across multidisciplinary teams by maintaining open communication and supporting a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and teamwork.
  • Carry out additional responsibilities and special projects as assigned in support of environmental and operational objectives.

Qualifications
  • Demonstrated commitment to maintaining a safe workplace while promoting environmental responsibility and a strong health and safety culture.
  • Post-secondary education in Environmental Science, Hydrology, Environmental or Civil Engineering, Natural Resources, or a related field. An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will also be considered.
  • Eligibility for, or possession of, a recognized professional designation in a related discipline is considered an asset.
  • Minimum of five years of experience supporting environmental programs, field operations, permitting, regulatory compliance, or project coordination.
  • Experience within mining, energy, infrastructure, construction, or other heavy industrial environments is highly desirable.
  • Proven ability to manage competing priorities, solve complex problems, and build effective working relationships across multidisciplinary teams.
  • High level of professionalism, integrity, accountability, and commitment to ethical environmental practices.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare technical documentation and communicate effectively with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and comfortable working with digital data management and reporting tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively within diverse, inclusive, and multicultural work environments.
