Junior Estimator - FabricationThe Junior Estimator supports the estimating and project teams by preparing quantity take-offs, reviewing drawings and specifications, obtaining supplier and subcontractor pricing, and assisting in the preparation of competitive project estimates and proposals. This role provides an excellent opportunity to develop a strong understanding of fabrication, structural steel, process piping, and modular construction projects while building a career in project execution and estimating.
The Junior Estimator works closely with Estimators, Project Managers, Procurement, Engineering, and Production teams to ensure accurate cost estimates and successful project pursuits.
This position is based out of Nisku, AB.
What You Will Be Working On
Estimating Support
Assist in preparing cost estimates for fabrication and construction projects.
Perform quantity take-offs from drawings, specifications, and bid documents.
Review project documentation to identify scope requirements and potential risks.
Support the development of labor, material, equipment, and subcontract cost estimates.
Assist in evaluating bid opportunities and tender requirements.
Pricing & Procurement Coordination
Solicit pricing from suppliers and subcontractors.
Analyze vendor quotations and compare pricing options.
Maintain supplier and subcontractor databases.
Assist with budgetary pricing and preliminary estimates.
Proposal Preparation
Support the preparation of bid submissions and proposal packages.
Compile schedules, qualifications, exclusions, and supporting documentation.
Ensure estimates and proposals are submitted accurately and on time.
Assist with post-bid reviews and clarifications.
Project Handover
Participate in estimate review and turnover meetings.
Organize estimate files and supporting documentation for project teams.
Assist in transferring estimate assumptions and project requirements to operations.
Data Management & Reporting
Maintain estimating databases and historical cost information.
Track project bid results and estimate performance.
Assist with developing estimating tools and templates.
Support continuous improvement initiatives within the estimating department.
Industry and Market Research
Monitor market trends for labor, materials, and fabrication costs.
Research suppliers, subcontractors, and emerging industry practices.
Assist with benchmarking and cost analysis exercises.
What We Are Looking For
Diploma or degree in Engineering, Construction Engineering Technology, or a related field.
1–3 years of experience in estimating, fabrication ,or project coordination.
Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
Experience with estimating software, Tekla PowerFab, Bluebeam, or ERP systems is considered an asset.
Understanding of structural steel, process piping, modular fabrication, or industrial construction is preferred.
