Data engineer

We are seeking an experienced and visionary Data Engineer to join a leading Canadian financial services and wealth management institution as they execute a major digital transformation. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in constructing a next-generation data platform from the ground up. This cloud-native environment will serve as the foundational backbone for enterprise analytics, process automation, and responsible Artificial Intelligence (AI) adoption across Canada.

Responsibilities
Data Pipeline Engineering: Architect, build, and maintain highly scalable, secure, and performant ETL/ELT data pipelines and ingestion workflows.

Platform & Modeling: Participate in establishing data warehouses, marts, and data lakes using modern architectures (Data Vault, Star Schema, etc.).

DevOps & MLOps Integration: Implement modern software engineering best practices including CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, versioning, and model monitoring in cloud environments (Azure/GCP).

AI & Machine Learning Enablement: Prepare, curate, and optimize datasets for supervised ML models; partner with Data Scientists to operationalize and industrialize machine learning solutions.

Stakeholder Collaboration: Translate complex functional business requirements into robust technical specifications in an Agile/Scrum setting.

Qualifications
Experience: 7+ years of dedicated expertise in data engineering, ETL development, and complex data architecture.

Core Technologies: Advanced expertise in cloud data platforms such as Snowflake (essential), Microsoft Fabric (strong asset), Databricks, and Azure Data Factory.

Languages & Querying: Strong proficiency in SQL and hands-on experience with SSIS.

Cloud & Containers: In-depth knowledge of Azure or GCP infrastructure along with containerization platforms (Docker, Kubernetes).

Methodologies & Tools: Practical knowledge of MLOps, CI/CD pipelines, and familiarity with Microsoft Power Platform (Power BI, Power Automate).

Soft Skills: Exceptional problem-solving skills, strong natural leadership, and the ability to mentor multi-functional teams.

Industry Experience: Previous experience within financial services, wealth management, or insurance is considered a significant advantage.

Language Proficiency: Fluency in English (spoken and written) is required.

Our client operates in Canada. The company takes all reasonable steps to limit the number of positions in Quebec that require knowledge of a language other than French, and only requires it when necessary and its existing bilingual employees are unable to perform these duties. Based on an assessment conducted by our client, it has been determined that this position requires candidates to be fluent in English (both spoken and written). In particular, this position will require the employee to interact with centralized internal departments (e.g., Operations / HR / Finance / Legal / Contracts / Sales) that support the organization in Canada and that do not speak French.
