Highlight of the Job

The Construction Coordinator is accountable for the safe delivery and coordination of field construction activities that support the successful execution of capital projects at the Gold Bar Wastewater Treatment Plant. Working closely with Project Managers, contractors, operations personnel, and other stakeholders, the Construction Coordinator oversees construction activities to help ensure projects are delivered safely, within scope, on schedule, to quality standards, and within budget.

Projects typically range from one to two years in duration and require ongoing coordination between construction activities and plant operations. The Construction Coordinator is accountable to multiple assigned Project Managers and operates within the direction and delegated authority established by the Project Managers and their direct leader.

What you’ll be responsible for:

Reporting to the Manager and supporting multiple Project Managers, your responsibilities will include the following but are not limited to:

  • Providing input into the Project Manager's plans and direction while maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Contributing to the achievement of project objectives and performance metrics by overseeing day-to-day construction activities and ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within scope, to quality standards, and within budget.
  • Addressing safety concerns immediately to mitigate risks while maintaining clear, proactive communication with project managers, stakeholders, contractors, and operations teams.
  • Ensuring EPCOR Safety Standards and Occupational Health & Safety requirements are consistently met across all project activities.
  • Reviewing, approving, and actively participating in EPCOR safety permitting and documentation processes, including Safe Work Plans, HEI permits, hazard assessments, site assessments, and work observations.
  • Reviewing construction hazards and contractor work procedures to eliminate or reduce the potential for incidents. Initiating corrective actions for HSE non-compliance, ensuring incidents are reported through ERS, and driving timely completion of corrective actions.
  • Coordinating multi-disciplinary construction activities through the supervision of contractors and maintenance personnel supporting wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) capital projects.
  • Submitting and coordinating HEI and shutdown requests while working closely with Operations and contractors to minimize impacts to plant operations.
  • Anticipating site coordination challenges, operational constraints, and HSE concerns, while developing and implementing solutions that enable safe and efficient collaboration between plant personnel and contractors.
  • Monitoring construction progress and schedule performance to ensure compliance with contract documents and approved project schedules. Identifying deficiencies and schedule variances, facilitating corrective actions, and verifying contractor time sheets, material usage, and time-and-material work as required.
  • Providing constructability and Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) input during project planning, design, execution, and closeout phases.
  • Supporting the preparation of commissioning documentation and coordinating commissioning activities. Acting as a resource during contractor commissioning activities, facilitating witness testing, and assisting with the development of standards, procedures, as-built drawings, and operations and maintenance manuals.
  • Conducting deficiency inspections throughout construction and at project completion to ensure deficiencies are identified, documented, and resolved.
  • Maintaining a working knowledge of the EPCOR PMO Framework and the Gold Bar Integrated Management System , while fulfilling employee accountabilities within the Integrated Management System.
  • Participating in daily Core Team meetings and providing project updates to plant stakeholders, operations personnel, and project team members.

What’s required to be successful:

Education

  • A 2-year post-secondary diploma in Engineering Technology or an equivalent combination of education and experience.CET (Certified Engineering Technologist) designation is considered an asset.Construction Management or Project Management certifications are considered assets.

Experience that includes:

  • 7+ years of field experience supporting construction projects, construction inspection, and project delivery activities.
  • Demonstrated experience in the construction, modification, maintenance, and repair of industrial facilities.
  • Experience supporting projects within water treatment, wastewater treatment, utilities, or similar industrial environments is considered an asset.

Technical Skills

  • Strong knowledge of construction safety regulations, safe work procedures, and industry best practices.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act, Regulations, and Code, and their application within construction environments.
  • Strong project and construction management skills, including construction coordination, scheduling, contractor oversight, and contract administration.
  • Strong understanding of construction permitting requirements and hazardous energy isolation processes within industrial operating facilities.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications across multiple disciplines, including civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and HVAC.
  • Ability to interpret and work with engineering drawings, specifications, construction documentation, and technical project records.
  • Experience supporting commissioning activities, equipment startup, deficiency management, and project closeout.
  • Strong knowledge of applicable industry, engineering, and construction codes and standards.
  • Ability to provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior staff on construction methods, safety practices, and internal processes.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.

  • Demonstrated problem-solving abilities, including proactively identifying issues, evaluating options, and recommending practical solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and share knowledge with junior employees on construction methods, safety requirements, and internal processes.
