Job Title: Fabricator / WelderJob Description

This role involves fabricating, welding, and assembling high-quality metal components from engineered designs, blueprints, and detailed drawings. You will work with a wide range of tools, equipment, and materials to create custom machinery and unique metal products in a dynamic, fast-paced manufacturing environment. The position offers exposure to diverse projects, continuous skills development, and the opportunity to take pride in building precision components used in demanding applications.

Responsibilities
  • Perform TIG, MIG, and flux core welding in accordance with specifications and quality standards.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and fabrication drawings to plan and execute work accurately.
  • Operate fabrication equipment such as shears, ironworkers, drills, plasma cutters, and torches to cut and shape metal components.
  • Use templates, gauges, squares, levels, and measuring tools to ensure accuracy of parts, joints, and assemblies.
  • Safely operate cranes, rigging, and lift trucks to move materials and assemblies as required.
  • Support production targets by working closely with supervisors and leads to meet schedules and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Complete all required documentation, records, and forms, and follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) consistently.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area, adhering to all safety practices and guidelines.
  • Assist with assembly, installation, and installation assembly of components and systems as needed.
  • Support testing, shipping preparation, and related tasks to ensure finished products meet specifications and are ready for delivery.
  • Perform grinding, sanding, drilling, saw cutting, routing, and other finishing operations on metal components.
  • Fabricate sheet metal and perform metal bending, pipe bending, and cutting metal using appropriate tools and equipment.
  • Use hand and power tools, including grinders, drills, saws, routers, and cutting tools, to complete fabrication tasks efficiently.
  • Work in accordance with documented procedures and complete all applicable records for traceability and quality control.
  • Collaborate with team members in a friendly, team-oriented environment and contribute to a positive workplace culture.
Essential Skills
  • Fabrication Red Seal certification.
  • Minimum 3+ years of fabrication and welding experience.
  • Proficiency in TIG, MIG, and flux core welding for custom machinery and projects.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and expert mechanical skills for fabrication and installation work.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints, shop drawings, fabrication drawings, and simple layouts.
  • Proficiency with fabrication hand tools, including drills, grinders, cutting tools, squares, levels, and measuring devices.
  • Experience using hand and power tools such as grinders, drills, saws, routers, and other cutting tools.
  • Ability to accurately read a tape measure and perform basic math with a high degree of precision.
  • Experience with assembly, installation, installation assembly, and working from blueprints to complete builds.
  • Competence in grinding, sanding, drilling, saw cutting, cutting metal, and fabricating sheet metal.
  • Experience with metal bending and pipe bending in a fabrication environment.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs as part of daily duties.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills to coordinate tasks and document work.
  • Strong attention to detail and pride in workmanship, producing high-quality finished products.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience welding aluminum and steel using MIG and TIG processes is considered an asset.
  • Previous or current CWB (Canadian Welding Bureau) and/or LR certification is considered an asset.
  • Level C welding ticket is considered an asset.
  • Forklift certification is considered an asset.
  • Machining experience is considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new skills and a strong desire for ongoing development.
  • Friendly, team-oriented approach with the ability to collaborate across departments.
  • Experience working on high-end or complex projects, such as large marine or custom builds, is an advantage.

Work Environment

The role is based in a large, open, heavy industrial manufacturing facility dedicated to producing secure, weather-tight marine closures and related products. You will work in the windows and doors department within a clean, organized plant that features individual stations for fabrication and welding. The environment includes multiple departments, providing significant cross-training opportunities and exposure to different types of work. The team is friendly and collaborative, with several long-tenured employees and some departments playing music while work is performed. The position follows a first-shift schedule, working Monday to Friday from 6:00 am to 2:30 pm. Dress requirements include appropriate safety-toe work boots, long pants, and safety glasses, and you will need to bring and use a measuring tape as part of your daily tasks.
