2026/2027, Fall & Winter Terms, Course-Based Opportunities, Department of Native Studies – Faculty of Education

The Department of Native Studies is seeking qualified Contract Academic Staff (CAS) to teach the following courses in-person in the 2026-27 Session in the Fall and Winter Terms. Please apply by submitting a letter of application, a curriculum vitae and the names and contact information of three referees in a single pdf file in English to the Office of the Dean of Education (see email below) and indicate to which of the courses you are applying. The courses will run based on sufficient enrollment and budgetary approval.

Qualifications: Applicants must hold a Master’s degree, and those holding a Ph.D. or who are at the ABD stage may be preferred. Applicants may seek to establish an experiential/traditional equivalency to the Master’s and are invited to contact the Chair of the Selection Committee on how to establish equivalent academic or professional credentials.

Salary: $8,132.00 per 3 credit hour course.

68.155 INTRO TO CREE LANGUAGE I (Fall Term, Slot 7 (Mon/Wed/Fri 2:40-3:30)
This course develops basic proficiency in understanding, speaking, reading and writing Cree, as well as some knowledge of its phonetic and grammatical structure. Cross-registered with (Francophone Studies & Languages) 58:NAT:155. 3 lecture hours per week, one term.

68.156 INTRO TO CREE LANGUAGE II (Winter Term, Time TBD)
A continuation of 68:155. Cross-registered with (Francophone Studies & Languages) 58:NAT:156. 3 lecture hours per week, one term.

68:157 INTRODUCTION TO THE OJIBWAY LANGUAGE I (3) (Fall Term, Time TBD)
This course develops basic proficiency in understanding, speaking, reading and writing Ojibway, as well as some knowledge of its phonetic and grammatical structure. Cross-registered with ((Francophone Studies & Languages) 58:NAT:157. 3 lecture hours per week, one term.

68:158 INTRODUCTION TO THE OJIBWAY LANGUAGE II (3) (Winter Term, Time TBD)
A continuation of 68:157. Cross-registered with (Francophone Studies & Languages) 58:NAT:158. 3 lecture hours per week, 1 laboratory hour per week, one term.

68:163 INTRODUCTION TO AN INDIGENOUS LANGUAGE I (3) (Fall Term, Time TBD)
This course develops basic proficiency in understanding, speaking, reading and writing in an Indigenous Language other than other than Ojibway, Dakota, or Cree, as well as some knowledge of its phonetic and grammatical structure. Cross-registered with (Francophone Studies & Languages) 58:NAT:163. 3 lecture hours per week, 1 laboratory hour per week, one term.

68:164 INTRODUCTION TO AN INDIGENOUS LANGUAGE II (3) (Winter Term, Time TBD)
A continuation of 68:163. Cross-registered with (Francophone Studies & Languages) 58:NAT:164. 3 lecture hours per week, 1 laboratory hour per week, one term.
