Location: Administrative Centre (CA). Requisition ID: 14061.

Why join us?

At Bombardier, we design, build and maintain the world’s peak‑performing aircraft for the world’s most discerning people and businesses, governments, and militaries. We have been successful in setting the highest standards by putting our people at the heart of it all, and defining excellence together.

Providing services to Bombardier means operating at the highest level. Every day, you are part of a team that delivers superior experiences and products, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in our industry and beyond. By prioritizing continuous growth and development, we empower everyone to reach their full potential on their own terms, because the greatest results happen when you are free to be yourself and share your unique expertise.

What are your contributions to the team?

In your role, you will be reporting to the Engineering EMC Section Chief. The Professional Senior, Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) role is a multifaceted position within the Functional, Systems, Research and technology department. At Bombardier, the Electromagnetic Compatibility team is responsible for ensuring the safety of our aircraft to internal and external electromagnetic threats including Electromagnetic Interference (EMI), High‑Intensity Radiated Fields (HIRF), Low‑Intensity Radiated Fields (LIRF), Lightning, and Electrostatic Charge. We ensure our aircraft meet all the associated regulatory requirements. Your future team supports all Bombardier products.

  • Lead complex engineering assignments related to EMI, HIRF, LIRF, Lightning, and Electrostatics including performing detailed analyses using similarity assessments, simulation, and/or analytical methods.
  • Help drive the resolution of electromagnetic related issues to support EMC certification and sustaining activities to support production and in‑service.
  • Define scope of work and EMC effort for engineering projects, plan activities/milestones, highlight technical risks, and complete tasks according to priorities.
  • Analyze new and/or modified system or structure designs to assess technical engineering impacts and propose EMC compliance approaches. Review/approve associated engineering documentation such as test procedures, test reports and analysis reports. Verify compliance with certification regulations.
  • Propose, drive and support knowledge capture initiatives. Support identification and closure of knowledge and skills gaps.
  • Provide guidance to junior team members and interns. Act as EMC lead on projects, delegating and supervising the work of junior team members and interns. Coach, mentor, and train new employees in the EMC team.
  • Support creation and updating of technical requirements for EMI, HIRF, LIRF, Lightning, and Electrostatics.
  • Provide EMC guidance and support to collaborative R&D teams (universities, industry) in solving issues related to Electromagnetics and driving activities to completion.
  • Represent the EMC team at multidisciplinary meetings. Engage with internal and external suppliers, partners, and clients.
  • Identify and implement improvements to Bombardier processes and best practices.
  • Support and witness EMC tests in Canada, the United States and Europe as needed.
  • Prepare/review aircraft level EMI, HIRF, LIRF, Lightning, and Electrostatic Discharge test procedures, oversee testing, and generate test reports.
  • Prepare Certification Design Compliance Report.

How to thrive in this role?

  • You hold a degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Sciences or Physics.
  • You have eight (8) years minimum experience in EMC that may include work and/or academic experience.
  • You have a minimum of four (4) years working experience with systems or structures EMC qualification/certification in the aerospace industry.
  • You have knowledge of relevant industry standards (RTCA/DO‑160, SAE ARPs) and high-level familiarity with airworthiness (TCCA, FAA, EASA) Regulations and Advisory Materials pertaining to EMI, HIRF, LIRF, Lightning, and Electrostatics.
  • You thrive working in a team, and can leverage the community for support from other disciplines, including airworthiness, manufacturing, and other engineering disciplines to achieve common goals.
  • You demonstrate engineering leadership and work autonomously to achieve the goals established for you, your team and your business division.
  • You are regarded as a specialist in at least one aspect of EMC and have demonstrated a depth and breadth of knowledge and skill in other areas of EMC. You are recognized by your peers as a resource in the EMC field.
  • You have experience participating in major project and design reviews and are able to identify technical, schedule and budget risks related to EMC.
  • You possess excellent problem‑solving skills and are capable of applying your expertise to reach creative solutions within a multi-disciplinary group.
  • You possess good oral and written skills, can effectively communicate achievements and challenges to technical as well as non-technical management. French is an asset.
  • You have preferably participated in a minimum of one (1) aircraft development program.
  • Experience with electromagnetic simulation tools is an asset.
  • Knowledge of the aviation business is an asset.

Now that you can see yourself with the Bombardier Team!

Please note: You don’t need all the skills, knowledge, and experience listed to contribute for this opportunity. We’re not seeking perfection, just passionate, committed individuals.
