Associate, Investment Banking – Financial Sponsors – Toronto, ON
Global Banking and Markets (GBM) conducts the Bank’s wholesale banking and capital markets business with corporate, government and institutional investor clients. GBM is a full-service wholesale bank and investment dealer in Canada and Mexico and offers a range of products and services in the U.S., Latin America and select markets in Europe and Asia‑Pacific.
GBM provides clients with corporate lending; transaction banking (payments, trade finance, cash management); investment banking (corporate finance, mergers & acquisitions); fixed income and equity underwriting, sales, trading and research; prime services; foreign exchange sales and trading; commodity derivatives; and collateral management.
Purpose
Responsible for preparing client presentations, financial modeling, and mentoring/supervising Analysts. Progressively take on increased responsibilities on live transactions and participate in business development under the guidance of senior group members. Contribute to the overall success of the team, ensuring specific individual goals, plans and initiatives are executed and delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives. Ensure all activities are conducted in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.
What You’ll Do
- Champion a client‑centric culture focused on deepening client relationships and leveraging broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge to deliver solutions throughout the Scotiabank footprint and generate revenue.
- Coordinate with the various product groups and industry team within GBM.
- Develop and maintain effective industry relationships with legal counsel, external parties, and clients.
- The day‑to‑day responsibilities include:
- Evaluate and analyze the financial needs of corporate clients, including developing financial models to support advisory and financing solutions.
- Collect, consolidate and interpret company and industry data.
- Perform comprehensive financial statement analysis and maintain models.
- Conduct financial and written analysis of companies and industries.
- Identify and develop business opportunities with clients.
- Prepare client presentations, including compiling data and assembling presentation materials.
- Support transaction structuring and execution efforts, with increasing responsibility and accountability over time.
- Apply product and capital markets knowledge to help clients achieve their financial objectives.
- Develop more junior bankers on your team and across CIB and GBM through active engagement in developing their technical, coverage, and leadership skills and provide real‑time constructive feedback.
- Actively partner with group leaders and the broader team to build team dynamics and engagement across teams.

What You’ll Bring
- 3‑6 years of experience in Investment Banking, Equity Research or corporate finance in an accounting firm.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business, Finance, Math, Engineering, Economics, Science or Technology.
- Strong quantitative skills focused on financial analysis, accounting and financial theory.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent command of Microsoft Suite, especially Excel.
- High attention to detail.
- High energy and a keen desire to learn new concepts.
- Obtain and maintain required FINRA registration and licensing appropriate to your functions and responsibilities.
Work Arrangement
This position is an onsite role with the expectation of working five days a week in the office. The arrangement is subject to change based on business needs.
