Fourth Class Power Engineer

Rocky Mountain House Area, Alberta | Full-Time Contract

Power Engineering / Sour Gas Operations | Entry to Intermediate | 7 On, 7 Off Rotation

  • Position Type: Full-Time Contract (potential transition to permanent client employment)
  • Location: Rocky Mountain House area, Alberta
  • Schedule: 7 days on, 7 days off rotation (day and night shifts)
  • Hours: 12 hours per shift, continuous 24/7 operation
  • Compensation: $52.00 to $57.00 per hour, based on experience
  • Experience: Entry level to 3 years of gas plant or sour gas operating experience preferred
  • Certification: Valid ABSA Fourth Class Power Engineer certificate required
  • Language: English
  • Accommodations: Must reside in the Rocky Mountain House area or provide own accommodations. Daily transportation provided from Rocky Mountain House.

The Role

GrizzlyTrek is seeking Fourth Class Power Engineers to join our valued client's team at a sour gas processing facility in the Rocky Mountain House area of Alberta. This is a full-time contract role supporting the restart and ongoing operation of the plant, with strong potential to transition to permanent employment with the client for the right operators.

What You'll Do

  • Operate, monitor, and adjust boilers, pressure vessels, compressors, pumps, and auxiliary equipment under the direction of the shift engineer
  • Complete regular field rounds, recording operating data, equipment readings, and process conditions
  • Collect process samples and perform routine testing to support amine treating and sulfur recovery operations
  • Perform valve line-ups, equipment isolations, and lockouts for maintenance and startup activities
  • Monitor H2S levels and sour gas process conditions, responding to alarms per site procedures
  • Assist control room operators during startup, shutdown, and normal operations of the plant
  • Carry out minor maintenance, housekeeping, and equipment inspections in the field
  • Support the safe restart of process units, including dehydration, compression, and tail gas systems
  • Follow all site safety, environmental, and regulatory procedures for sour service operations

What You Bring

  • Valid ABSA Fourth Class Power Engineer certificate
  • Valid H2S Alive certification
  • Standard First Aid and CPR certification
  • Physically able to perform field operator duties in an outdoor industrial environment, including climbing stairs and ladders and wearing respiratory protection
  • Willing and able to work a 7 on, 7 off rotation with 12-hour day and night shifts
  • Reside in the Rocky Mountain House area or able to provide own accommodations
  • Strong commitment to safety and teamwork

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in sour gas processing, amine treating, or sulfur recovery operations
  • Experience with plant startups or restarts
  • Familiarity with distributed control systems (DCS)
  • Ground Disturbance, Confined Space Entry, and Fall Protection tickets
  • Valid Class 5 driver's licence

Work Environment

  • Based at a sour gas processing facility in the Rocky Mountain House area, running as a continuous 24/7 operation with amine (MDEA) treating, sulfur recovery, tail gas cleanup, dehydration, and gas and steam driven compression.
  • Work involves exposure to H2S and requires strict adherence to sour service safety protocols at all times, with required personal protective equipment including respiratory protection.
  • Operators work in outdoor field conditions in all seasons as well as in the control room. Daily transportation is provided from Rocky Mountain House.
