Job Description Summary

This position is responsible for the daily enforcement of the UBCO Traffic and Parking rules and issues citations to vehicles parking in violation of the rules. This position is also responsible for the issuing of parking permits financial management of all collected monies from ticket dispensers parking lot maintenance equipment maintenance signage and enforcement. This position is fully aware of all aspects of parking at the University and provides information on parking to faculty staff public and students.

Organizational Status

This position reports to the Manager Parking Services.

Work Performed

Parking Compliance

-First responder for enquiries and complaints from faculty staff students and the general public
-Monitors Parking Enforcement system and issues parking violations (tickets)
-Organizes and coordinates installation and removal of immobilization device on multiple violation offenders vehicles
-Supports Ceremonies Conference Centre Faculties and Departments to assist with special requirements for parking services e.g. signage traffic control

Maintenance

-Reports maintenance on all parking lots keeping the appearance at an acceptable level e.g. repairs resurfacing line painting and sweeping
-Assists with installation and maintenance of parking meters ticket dispensing machines light standards installation of signage and other equipment
-Assists with ordering collecting storing and maintaining equipment stock to ensure all parking lot equipment are kept operational
-Evaluates and reports condition of parking lot equipment to the Manager Parking Services
-Reports any issues with electronic equipment or vehicles to Parking Management
-Assists in maintaining and servicing Parking Services vehicles and equipment
-Removal of snow around ticket dispensers when required

Administrative and Financial Support

-Collects coinage from parking meters and ticket dispensers and forwards to the appropriate UBC financial department for monthly reconciliation when required
-Enters information and maintains computerized Parking Services Data Base (PSDB) (T2) software program
-Reconciles records of issued parking passes as required
-Assists with refunds bank deposits journal vouchers financial services reconciliations and revenue statements as required.
-Works with maintains electronic wireless debit and visa card instrument and acquires service when required. Processes and records all related printouts as required.

Performs other related duties as required including providing backup for other Parking Compliance Officers and Parking Services Administrative Coordinators.

Consequence of Error/Judgement

This position follows policies and procedures when deciding whether to issue a ticket. Latitude for use of their own judgement exists in situations where leniency can be given which could happen daily and on a frequent basis. Errors of judgment untimely or inaccurate advice and inappropriate decisions on procedures or policies could reflect negatively on the department.

Supervision Received

Reports to the Manager Parking Services. Works under limited supervision while performing their duties.

This position presently has no direct supervision duties.

Minimum Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

Completion of Grade 12 or one year related experience. Maintain a valid BC Class 5 driver s license. Basic Security Training Level I & II and/or a valid Provincial Security license and/or By Law Enforcement Level I course are a definite in business machines two way radios computers laptop and other related electronic devices and affiliated software.

Demonstrated ability to operate vehicles in a safe and courteous manner.

Ability to work to detailed and established procedures standards practices and precedents.
Ability to perform in a polite courteous and tactful manner when dealing with faculty staff students and the general public.

Ability to demonstrate good judgment when handling situations.

Must be in good physical condition with the ability to lift up to 30 kilograms and able to conduct appropriate snow removal where required.

Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods as well as kneel and crouch as required to perform operational duties.
