  • Developing Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID), controls narratives, and testing protocols for new and existing systems.
  • Reading and troubleshooting machine electrical drawings.
  • Configuring PLC message instructions and network settings.
  • Supporting the development of enterprise‑wide hardware, programming, and documentation strategies and standards for controls and drives systems.
  • Assisting with the training of Central region controls specialists, electricians, and automation technicians.
  • Supporting the work of outside contractors and consultants on specifying equipment, controls, drives, and system installs as necessary.
  • Supporting operations and contributing to overall uptime by providing support during and outside business hours (if required).
  • Contributing to root cause analysis activities and corrective/preventive action plans by identifying failure trends, recommending sustainable solutions, supporting implementation of change management procedures, and helping prevent future operational disruptions.
  • Maintaining awareness of new capabilities and technologies as they relate to controls, drives, and web handling, and supporting the implementation and adoption of new technologies when applicable.
  • Partnering with Material Handling Equipment Integrator and other supplier groups in the testing and performance validation of the systems.
  • Supporting the definition and implementation of the equipment‑based control systems for the new hub, engaging vendors, IT, and operations to ensure a functional system is established and executed.

  • Knowledgeable of AutoCAD, NavisWorks, or Revit.
  • Strong data analysis development skills are must.
  • Proficient with general MS Office software.
  • General health and safety knowledge (Ontario OHSA, ESA, CSA, ULC, etc.).

  • Ability to operate independently and engage with business operations as needed.

Experience & Education

  • Diploma or bachelor’s degree in electrical, Mechatronics, Automation, or Controls Engineering.
  • 5+ years of experience supporting automated material handling systems in logistics, parcel, e‑commerce, or manufacturing environments.
  • Strong hands‑on experience troubleshooting and supporting Siemens and/or Allen‑Bradley PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, VFDs, industrial networks, and machine safety systems.
  • Experience commissioning new automation equipment, leading controls upgrades, and implementing system performance improvements is highly desirable.
  • Proven ability to diagnose and resolve complex electrical, controls, and automation issues in high‑speed conveyor and sortation systems.
  • Experience applying CMMS data, reliability engineering principles, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement methodologies to improve equipment performance.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work cross‑functionally with Operations, Maintenance, IT, vendors, and engineering teams.
