Job Title: Machinist – Team LeadJob DescriptionThis role combines hands-on machining with leadership responsibilities in a modern, climate-controlled shop. You will interpret complex blueprints, set up and operate mills, lathes, and CNC grinding machines, and perform basic troubleshooting independently. In addition to operating your own machines, you will lead a team of machinists to ensure high-quality, tight-tolerance parts are produced efficiently and safely.
Responsibilities- Read and interpret detailed blueprints and technical drawings to plan and execute daily machining tasks.
- Set up mills, lathes, and CNC grinding machines, including tooling, fixtures, and offsets, to meet job specifications.
- Perform basic troubleshooting on machines and processes to resolve issues and minimize downtime.
- Operate your own machines while simultaneously overseeing the work of a team of 5 or more machinists.
- Ensure parts meet tight tolerance requirements commonly found in industries such as aerospace, nuclear, and medical devices.
- Apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles consistently during setup, machining, and inspection.
- Use precision measuring instruments, such as micrometers and other inspection tools, to verify part dimensions and quality.
- Contribute to programming and machining activities, including the use of mill, lathe, CNC lathe, mill-turn, and CNC grinding equipment as required.
- Support or perform CNC programming tasks, including work with Mastercam where applicable.
- Inspect finished components to confirm they meet engineering and quality requirements, and document results as needed.
- Guide and support team members in best practices for machining, setup, and inspection to maintain high production standards.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area and follow all shop policies and procedures.
Essential Skills- At least 5 years of CNC machinist experience in a production or job-shop environment.
- Proven experience working with milling machines, lathes, or both.
- A minimum of 5 years of consistent blueprint reading experience in previous roles.
- Strong, consistent experience with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
- Hands-on experience working within tight tolerance industries such as aerospace, nuclear, or medical device manufacturing.
- Ability to independently set up machines, including mills, lathes, and CNC grinding equipment, and perform basic troubleshooting.
- Proficiency with precision measuring tools, including micrometers and other inspection equipment.
- Solid machining skills across various platforms, including mill, lathe, CNC lathe, mill-turn, and CNC grinding machines.
- Experience with inspection processes to verify part quality and adherence to specifications.
- Capability to lead and coordinate a team of machinists while maintaining personal production output.
Additional Skills & Qualifications- A machinist ticket or completion of a pre-apprenticeship program is considered an asset.
- Programming experience with Mastercam is considered an asset.
- Experience with CNC programming and machining optimization is an advantage.
- Background in high-precision, tight-tolerance manufacturing environments is beneficial.

The schedule follows straight day shifts: Monday to Thursday from 7:00 . to 4:30 ., and Friday from 7:00 . to 12:00 ., providing a consistent routine and early finish at the end of the week. The facility emphasizes precision machining, quality, and safety, offering a professional setting where machinists can focus on high-tolerance work with reliable, up-to-date machinery.
