MSL Climate is the environmental markets division of McGill St‑Laurent. We operate across regulated and voluntary carbon markets, helping clients navigate complex environmental products while developing internal trading and market strategies. We are building a team at the intersection of market analysis, quantitative research, and commercial execution, with a clear objective: develop future Carbon Traders from within.
You will work closely with and report to the Senior Compliance Carbon Trader, gaining direct exposure to market analysis, strategy development, and commercial execution.
Objective
Develop trading strategies and contribute to P&L.
As an Analyst, you will develop the market, quantitative, and commercial skills required to build trading strategies, identify opportunities, and contribute directly to revenue generation.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the development and continuous improvement of carbon trading strategies
- Conduct in depth analysis of regulated carbon markets to identify trading opportunities and market inefficiencies
- Perform quantitative research, back‑testing, and risk/return analysis
- Build and improve pricing models, forecasting tools, and scenario analysis frameworks
- Develop dashboards, risk indicators, and decision‑support tools for the trading team
- Clean, structure, and automate market data and reporting workflows using Python, SQL, and Excel
- Write and publish a weekly newsletter on regulated carbon markets
- Build relationships with clients, counterparties, and market participants while supporting commercial discussions
- Identify new trading and business opportunities through proactive outreach and market research
- Contribute directly to the team's trading performance and P&L
Career Progression
The objective of the Analyst role is to transition into a Junior Carbon Trader.

Profile
- Strong academic background (Finance, Engineering, Economics, or related field)
- Proven experience with data cleaning, analysis, time‑series handling and statistical modelling
- Ability to quickly absorb complex information and deliver relevant analysis in context
- Solid understanding of financial modelling, forecasting, optimisation and derivatives markets
- Proficiency in Excel, Python & SQL
- High ownership mindset: autonomy and strong problem‑solving attitude
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced, performance‑driven environment
- Excellent communication skills
- Bilingual (French & English)
- Based in Montreal
