HireArt is helping Toyota Research Institute find a Robot Operator to demonstrate new behaviors, collect high-quality data, and support the development of advanced robotic systems.
In this role, you’ll teleoperate robots using virtual reality equipment and controllers, demonstrate tasks for robot learning, and collect data that helps improve robotic performance. You’ll work closely with engineering and research teams while maintaining a safe, efficient, and well-organized testing environment.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, adaptable, and comfortable performing repetitive, hands-on work with emerging technology. They have strong hand-eye coordination, communicate clearly, and are eager to learn new systems and contribute to cutting-edge robotics research.
As a Robot Operator, you will:- Operate robotic systems for a diverse range of tasks, including teleoperation using VR equipment and controllers.
- Demonstrate tasks to robots for learning purposes and collect data to enhance robotic capabilities.
- Collaborate with engineers and researchers to refine robotic operations and improve performance.
- Maintain a safe working environment and adhere to safety protocols at all times.
- Provide detailed feedback and reports on robot performance and any issues encountered.
- Assist in the setup, calibration, and maintenance of robotic systems and workstations.
- Travel up to 25% of the time for off-site testing and data collection as needed.
Requirements
- Strong hand-eye coordination and spatial awareness; experience with virtual reality systems or video games is a plus
- Ability to work independently, follow detailed instructions, and adapt to changing priorities
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to stand or sit for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks
- Ability to lift up to 30 pounds and complete tasks requiring physical dexterity
- Willingness to learn, accept feedback, and adapt to new tools and processes
- Ability to use an Apple Vision Pro headset for extended periods; candidates must meet the vision requirements for available corrective lens inserts and be comfortable with the potential for motion sickness
Preferred Qualifications:- Experience working with robotics or mechanical systems
- Passion for advancing robotics technology and applications
- Strong technical aptitude and the ability to learn new systems quickly
- Familiarity with the UNIX command-line interface

Commitment: This is a full-time, ongoing contract position staffed via HireArt. This position will be onsite and available to candidates able to work 4 10-hour days (M-Thur) and who are local to the Cambridge, MA area.
