Job description

Brandt Corporate Services Ltd. is seeking a Regional Safety Coordinator to join its team in Saskatoon, SK. The Safety Coordinator is responsible for supporting operational excellence in health and safety within their region and assigned area of responsibility. Together with the corporate health and safety team, operations, and other stakeholders, this position drives our health and safety culture and plays a pivotal role in achieving Brandt’s goal of being recognized for world class health and safety.

Duties & Responsibilities

Regional Health and Safety Program Implementation:

  • Support program implementation through preventive activities (e.g. inspections, employee training, internal and external audits, etc.) and corrective (e.g. incident investigation and follow up, etc.) activities.
  • Identify and address gaps in the health and safety program and in its implementation in collaboration with corporate safety, location committees/representatives, supervisors and employees and others.
  • Maintain accurate, timely and complete information related to health and safety program implementation (e.g. required documentation, records, reports, etc.).
  • Work collaboratively with others to ensure all aspects of the health and safety program are effectively communicated throughout the area of responsibility.

Regional Health and Safety Training:

  • As required, deliver classroom, online and hands-on health and safety training to Brandt’s standards, and to accepted instructional standards for adult learners and on selected topics (e.g. forklift operation, overhead crane operation, hazard assessment, etc.).
  • Administer instructionally sound evaluations (tests, quizzes, scenarios, etc.) to measure trainees’ acquisition and retention of course and program content.
  • Schedule training delivery in collaboration with corporate staff, location supervisors and staff, and others.
  • Maintain an up-to-date catalogue of associated program materials including course outlines and descriptions.
  • Ensure communications and presentations meet current corporate brand guidelines.
  • Utilize various systems and technology in the delivery of training materials.
  • Use software and computer applications to maintain course material (i.e. materials, procedures, manuals, handouts, wall charts, and online presentations).
  • Document and report trainee evaluation scores and attendance and distribute certificates to trainees.

Regional Audits and Inspections:

  • Under the direction of and in collaboration with the Regional Safety Manager, develop and maintain an annul schedule of worksite visits and “mini audits”.
  • Conduct, document and communicate results of routine mini-audits and workplace inspections at each assigned location.
  • As required, conduct annual internal certification audits, and support and help coordinate annual external certification audits (e.g. Certificate of Recognition).
  • Prepare and submit audit documentation in accordance with standards.
  • Maintain auditor certifications by attending training and successfully completing examinations as required.

Regional Compliance:

  • Maintain sound working knowledge of current and relevant health and safety legislation, standards, and requirements.
  • When required, advise employees and supervisors on health and safety legislation and standards.
  • Monitor compliance with the company's health and safety program and with relevant legislation.
  • Work collaboratively to identify and implement corrective actions.
  • As required, cooperate with Occupational Health and Safety Officers and others to monitor compliance and correct non-compliance.
  • Work collaboratively with others (e.g. operations, the corporate health and safety team, admins – safety, and others) to ensure compliance with the company’s requirements for:
    Safety meetings.
  • First aid assessments.
  • Emergency risk and violence hazard assessments.
  • Incident reporting and investigation.
  • Incident and injury management.
  • Other workplace programming.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Help monitor and report progress on leading indicators, lagging indicators and health and safety related initiatives (e.g. injury reduction, program updates, etc.).
  • Collaborate with the corporate health and safety team to ensure the health and safety program is current.
  • Participate in cross-company special projects and initiatives.
  • Support efforts to analyse and respond to organizational needs.
  • Ensure training materials and programs are kept current.
  • Ensure communications and presentations are professional and meet current corporate brand guidelines.
  • Monitor change to meet internal and external standards and requirements.
  • Ensure personal and team competence in new areas/topics/legislation by attending external training sessions and achieving certification, as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills
  • Three to five years’ experience in a health and safety role at the organizational level. Equivalencies will be considered for example, operations’ supervision with responsibilities related to health and safety.
  • Possesses a solid foundation of health and safety issues related to Brandt’s primary businesses and operations (e.g. manufacturing, property management and development, construction, heavy equipment sales and aftermarket support, etc.).
  • Possesses a solid foundation of subject matter expertise and health and safety knowledge.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and professionally, both in person and in writing, with very strong interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to use computers and computer applications effectively and efficiently.
  • Fluency in both of Canada’s official languages is a strong asset for Canadian Regional Safety Coordinators. This is a requirement for Coordinator(s) supporting operations in Quebec.

Education and Professional Development:

  • Completion of or evidence of working towards a post-secondary credential in health and safety (e.g. certificate or diploma from an accredited post-secondary institution). Equivalencies would be considered (e.g. health and safety work experience combined with training).
  • Achievement of or evidence of working towards achievement of a recognized professional health and safety designation.


Required Experience
