Engineers and Geoscientists BC is currently searching for a Practice Advisor II (Built Environment and Seismic Initiatives) to join our team in Burnaby on a 6-month contract!

In an effort to help build Engineers and Geoscientists BC’s capacity to support the day-to-day practice of BC’s professional engineers and professional geoscientists, the Practice Advisor II is responsible for identifying, developing and monitoring professional and ethical practice resources and requirements.

They provide interpretation and education on these resources and requirements to Engineers and Geoscientists BC, registrants, government, members of the public and a wide variety of other interested and affected parties.

This role will have a specific focus on the built environment and seismic initiatives.

Full details on our compensation and benefits value offering can be found below. WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING Providing professional practice and ethical advice to registrants, the public, provincial and municipal government, and other interested/affected parties.

Project managing the development and revision of professional practice guidelines and practice advisories, particularly those focused on the built environment and seismic initiatives, including monitoring associated contracts and budgets.

Developing and maintaining working relationships with other departments, teams, and individuals to develop efficiencies, streamline knowledge, and collaborate on various initiatives Providing leadership, management, and direction to advisory groups as assigned, as these groups are a key resource in assisting Engineers and Geoscientists BC with identifying practice issues and responding accordingly. Liaising with other regulators on professional practice resources and guidance.

May be called upon to support organizational initiatives related to practice boundaries, as well as built environment and seismic initiatives.

Supporting and raising awareness on the professional reliance model in BC by engaging with provincial and municipal government and the public such as attending and presenting at conferences, commenting on demand-side legislation, and collaborating with others. May be called upon to identify opportunities for proactive regulatory approaches in the built environment and seismic areas of practice.

Other duties as assigned by direct leader and, as appropriate, members of the divisional leadership team.

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLE The successful applicant will possess the following: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Geoscience, or similar.

Registered professional with, or eligible to be registered with, Engineers and Geoscientists BC.

  • (EIT, GIT, P.Eng., Eng.L., P.Geo., or Geo.L.) 6+ years of experience working within a firm where the practice of professional engineering/geoscience is the core aspect of their operations or working as part of an engineering or geoscience team to apply science to solve technical issues. 2+ years of experience in project management. Experience writing and submitting formal technical reports.

Both strong technical analysis and writing skills are required.

Experience working collaboratively with others, including leading/facilitating meetings with clients, registrants, and/or others.

Experience with public speaking, delivering presentations online and in-person.

Knowledge and experience with the building code and/or seismic design. This role offers a competitive compensation and benefits program including a salary within our hiring range of $111,000 to $124,000 (pro-rated based on the length of contract).

For full-time contract employees on this length of contract, we offer: 8% additional pay in lieu of benefits.

  • 15 vacation days per annum (pro-rated based on the length of contract). A flex day program offering additional paid days off (usually alternating Fridays) as a result of a compressed work week. A hybrid work model with an assigned schedule confirming days worked remotely and days worked in-office.

This role will be required to work in-office a minimum of 2 days per week during regular business operations. The required tools, equipment, and technology for employees to work remotely are provided. Free parking at the office, or a transit reimbursement offered to employees who take transit to work; we are centrally located near bus and Skytrain stops.
