Position

The Executive Director, Alberta, is a senior leadership role that guides the direction for Taproot’s Child and Family Services (CFS) and Persons with Developmental Disabilities (PDD) sectors across Alberta. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the position provides strategic and operational leadership, with responsibility for service quality, sector planning, fiscal stewardship, stakeholder relationships and thoughtful growth.

Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership and Planning

• Lead practical, outcome‑driven strategic planning for Alberta CFS and PDD.
• Support program development, service quality, accreditation and compliance with agency policies and contracts.
• Identify growth opportunities including funding, RFPs, partnerships and program expansions.
• Advance Truth and Reconciliation through culturally safe, respectful, relationship‑based approaches.
• Report to the Board of Directors and provide timely presentations.
• Champion change management, continuous improvement and innovation.

Operational Oversight

• Oversee daily operations of approximately $25 million in CFS and PDD services, including supported living, outreach, acquired brain injury supports, family preservation, FASD supports and outreach programs.
• Work with leaders and HR to address workforce pressures, retention, staff well‑being, labour relations and people‑related challenges.
• Integrate the CARE support model into day‑to‑day operations.
• Ensure compliance with government regulations, legal requirements, accreditation standards and contract obligations.
• Lead Alberta accreditation processes in partnership with operational teams.

Fiscal Awareness and Revenue Growth

• Maintain a clear understanding of financials across Alberta sectors.
• Identify risks and opportunities early; pursue funding, RFPs, contracts or other growth opportunities that support sustainability.
• Engage with government officials and partners as opportunities arise.

Stakeholder Engagement

• Act as a trusted senior contact for funders and sector partners.
• Represent Taproot at sector‑related meetings, conferences and community events.
• Build and maintain strong, respectful relationships that support quality, sustainability and growth.

Team Leadership and Development

• Coach and mentor program directors and managers to foster decision‑making, accountability and excellence.
• Build leadership capacity across Alberta teams and support a motivated, values‑aligned workforce.
• Create a culture of respect, inclusion, and collaboration.
• Provide steady guidance through operational challenges and sector change.
• Applicants must provide a current Criminal Record Check or Government Screening Letter.

Qualifications and Experience

• Post‑secondary degree or diploma in business, management, human services, education or related field (master’s preferred).
• Strong preference for experience in non‑profit, charitable, education, healthcare, social services or community services sectors.
• At least seven years of progressive leadership experience in social services or a similar sector.
• Proven success in strategic planning, program development, operational oversight, change management and continuous improvement.
• Collaborative, relationship‑driven leadership approach.
• Familiarity with Alberta PDD, CFS and sector stakeholders.
