Job description

Addiction and Mental Health Worker, London Coffee House Direct Service - (OPSEU) Relief This posting is the result of an expansion of a relief pool London, Ontario (London Zone) - Application Deadline: July 27, 2026 - The London Coffee House drop-in program fosters a vibrant community of individuals who are experiencing, or at risk of homelessness, promoting a welcoming and non-judgmental culture and providing a reprieve from the stigma so often felt in other community settings. As a member of our team, you’ll support individuals with anything they might need - from a hot meal to basic needs, from access to washrooms and laundry facilities to harm reduction kits and from on-site mental health and addictions groups to connections with broader community supports.

WHAT WE'RE OFFERING: What you'll be making - Starting rate for this role is $27.14 per hour (Level 1 – Direct Service), with a wage differential, based on regulation ( $30.01 per hour for Level 1 – Direct Service, Regulated): Successful candidates who are registered with one of the designated professional colleges (e.g.

OCSWSSW, CNO, COTO, CRPO, CPSO, or CPO) will receive the wage differential for regulation Successful external applicants will start at Level 1, with grid progression based on seniority up to Level 8 ($34.41 per hour for non-regulated, and $37.26 per hour for regulated); for internal applicants, grid level placement will occur as per the Collective Agreement When you'll work – Relief shifts will include days, afternoons, weekends and statutory holidays Your pension plan –Immediately eligible for optional enrolment in the Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP) What your benefits will be – 9% in lieu of benefits HOW YOU WILL BE MAKING A DIFFERENCE: Primary Responsibilities: Provide a welcoming, safe, and trusting environment to support clients Actively engage with all Coffee House attendees Orient and welcome new attendees Identify and respond to the concerns of participants experiencing mental illness, substance abuse, trauma and/or homelessness Provide crisis intervention, conflict resolution and negotiation skills as necessary Connect and liaise with appropriate community partners and resources Engage with clients in identifying and developing personal capacities leading to self-advocacy Provide health teaching and information regarding a variety of coping techniques and strategies Work with clients and help motivate and support them to work towards achievement of their goals Assist with operations, logistics, maintenance, and food services during shift Make decisions both independently and collaboratively as needed. Programming: Assist in planning, implementation and evaluation of London Coffee House programs and services Participate in, and facilitate the delivery of, social & recreational activities Assist with programming as necessary and in a timely manner Connect clients engaged with other community services to CMHA programs and services as needed Referral and Advocacy: Provide information regarding community resources Assist clients in linking, liaising/connecting with appropriate community resources Advocate for and support clients in accessing community resources Communication: When appropriate, act as liaison with caregivers and/or service & support providers who areinvolved with clients to facilitate a coordinated approach to service provision Ensure effective communication with Director, staff team, and any partner agencies, andcommunity services Crisis/Emergency Management: Crisis intervention, conflict resolution and negotiation skills Identify, promote resolution and management of all emergency situations concerning clients, staff and property Documentation: Complete required documentation related to client as per organization standards, discipline-specific guidelines and standards and PHIPA legislation Ensure that confidential program/caseload information and material is handled in accordance withapplicable privacy laws and organization policy Teamwork: Actively engage in learning opportunities, events, meetings, and team building activities scheduledby the organization for staff members Act as a resource to other staff and community partners; seek out and listen to input from otherstaff and community partners Provide support and encouragement to other staff as needed (e.g.

assistance with challengingparticipants/clients, coverage for vacation, sick time, share responsibility for work loads) Be supportive of, and an active participant in, the constant evolution and growth of the organization WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO APPLY: Police Vulnerable Sector Check Requirements Successful candidates must have a Police Vulnerable Sector Check completed in the last six months.

Interested applicants who reside in the City of London and are in need of a Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) are encouraged to apply for one as soon as possible as PVSCs in the City of London are currently taking approximately 5 weeks to be processed and offers of employment cannot be made without receipt of a PVSC.

  • We require the following qualifications: Post-secondary education in social services or a related field (primary proof of credentials will be required during the hiring process i.e.

original degree/diploma or official transcript) Current, satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) Demonstrated ability to attend work regularly We prefer the following qualifications: First Aid & CPR, WHMIS Training Training in crisis intervention and crisis resolution, including ASIST training program Demonstrated ability to work with participants experiencing multiple challenges related to mental illness, marginalization, poverty, abuse/trauma, homelessness and substance abuse Knowledge of London and area community services and resources applicable for the London Coffee House population Demonstrated knowledge or experience in harm reduction, relational and recovery theories and practices Knowledge of Psychosocial Rehabilitation Knowledge of community resources Knowledge of computerized documentation methods Health and safety knowledge Crisis intervention and prevention Knowledge of safe food handling procedures Knowledge of WHMIS, fire, health and safety procedures Bilingual in both official languages, preferred ; Une préférence sera accordée aux personnes possédant des compétences dans les deux languages officielles du Canada INTERNAL APPLICANTS: To be considered as an internal applicant, current staff members are reminded to apply using their @cmhatv.ca or @slwar.ca email address.
