The Student Residences and University Family Housing portfolios are distinct operations within Spaces & Experiences at the University of Toronto, each serving different populations and housing needs. Together,they contribute to a broader residential system that supports a diverse community of students and families. This breadth of operations reflects a shared commitment to delivering inclusive housing, responsive support services, and community-focused programming at scale.

The Student Residences team at Spaces & Experiences (S&E) oversees and operates undergraduate and graduate student housing for more than 2,200 students on the St. George campus. Our residences include Chestnut Residence, Oak House, Graduate House, and Knox Residence. We strive to offer a supportive and dynamic living-learning environment for residents that fosters academic success, personal growth, and a strong sense of belonging.

University Family Housing is comprised of two 21-storey residential towers and a unique stock of 83 century homes. The department provides housing to student families, faculty families and long-term residential tenancies in two neighbourhoods on the St. George Campus to over 3000 adults and children, and provides on-site property management services, as well as educational and recreational programming for tenant families.

The Coordinator will work closely with a variety of populations including undergraduate students, graduate students, and partners and children of University of Toronto students.


Your opportunity:

Reporting dually to the Assistant Director of University Family Housing and the Associate Dean, Residence Life of S&E Student Residences, the Coordinator, Student Support & Wellbeing plays a key role in advancing mental health awareness and wellbeing across residence communities. The position is responsible for the development and delivery of health education programs and initiatives, providing one-on-one resident support and case management, and facilitating training and professional development opportunities for residents, staff, and faculty.

The Coordinator, Student Support & Wellbeing leads the design and implementation of health and mental health-focused educational programming, including identifying learning outcomes, applying effective pedagogical approaches, and evaluating impact. This includes proactively responding to emerging trends in student wellbeing and fostering a culture of awareness, prevention, and early intervention.

The incumbent collaborates with other student support staff at the residences and elsewhere at the University to ensure that residents and/or family members are holistically supported and equipped to thrive. They provide ongoing support, make timely and informed referrals, and develop wellness curriculum for the various communities in response to trends, as needed.

The Coordinator, Student Support & Wellbeing works closely with the Associate Director, University Family Housing and the Associate Dean, Residence Life to inform key priorities and objectives. They are responsible for developing assessment tools, conducting detailed analyses, preparing reports, and communicating information to internal and external stakeholders. The incumbent is also responsible for supervising professional and student-staff.

Although most work is conducted during regular business hours, evening and weekend work is sometimes required. This position will require travelling between the residence sites across the St. George campus throughout the week, and at times in the same day.


Your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and implementing new programs and initiatives independently
  • Developing student assessment plans to support student learning outcomes and competencies
  • Conducting a detailed analysis of student feedback and learning outcomes to inform program planning activities
  • Developing content for instructional workshops
  • Providing proactive support to individuals in distress and making referrals to specific university and community services
  • Developing strategies that maximize outreach to students
  • Building and strengthening relationships with stakeholders and partners of strategic importance
  • Training and coaching student life staff and student leaders

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience. Master’s Degree in Social Work is preferred.
  • Minimum five (5) years of case support work in the field of mental health, with a minimum of three (3) years working with youth and/or post-secondary population. A minimum two (2) years’ experience in a student residence or similar context.
  • Demonstrated experience of case management practices, navigating complex systems and care coordination,and student mental health frameworks.
  • Demonstrated success building and strengthening relationships with stakeholders and partners of strategic significance.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, facilitate discussions, resolveconflict, collaborate with diverse stakeholders, and exercise sound judgment when responding to complex or time-sensitive situations.
  • Experience developing, delivering, and evaluating health education programs, with a thorough knowledge of campusand community wellness resources and supports available to students.
  • Demonstrated experience working with, training, and coaching student leaders, clubs, organizations, and student life staff.
  • Demonstrated commitment to building meaningful relationships with students and colleagues through an approachable, empathetic, and supportive approach.
  • Excellent time management and organization.
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
