Strathcona-Tweedsmuir School

Strathcona-Tweedsmuir School (STS) is a premier co-educational day school nestled in the Foothills of the Rocky Mountains just outside of the City of Calgary on a 220+ acre campus. As an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, STS offers all three IB Programmes from Kindergarten through to Grade 12.

In addition to the global perspective offered by the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme, the School offers an extensive co-curricular program in a technology-rich environment. Students take advantage of the amazing natural setting including a small pond, forest, and extensive trail system to complement their academic learning.

STS combines the rich traditions from its 120 years of history with innovative and research-based instructional practices where students pursue lives of purpose, flourishing emotionally, physically, and intellectually.

STS values pluralism. We are committed to welcoming, respecting and valuing people for who they are as individuals, learning from their differences, embracing their uniqueness, and providing a positive workplace for all.

Position Overview

The Communications and Engagement Coordinator is a versatile, creative generalist responsible for bridging the gap between digital content strategy and real-world community connection to support Strathcona-Tweedsmuir School's (STS) recruitment and enrollment goals. This position manages multiple facets of the prospective family journey, recognizing that website optimization, authentic digital storytelling, and face-to-face engagement are deeply interconnected.

Serving as an internal journalist and brand ambassador, the incumbent explores the campus to capture daily school life, manages the school's primary digital marketing tool (the website), and directly represents the school by leading prospective family tours. This role requires an agile professional who can seamlessly transition from behind-the-scenes creative production to public-facing community engagement, using powerful storytelling to guide families from their first digital click to their first campus visit.

The role centers on identifying and sharing authentic, inspiring narratives that highlight the unique STS student and alumni journey and institutional values and offers a dynamic balance of independent creative production, technical system upkeep, and active, people-facing engagement.

Core Areas of Responsibility

· The Customer Journey and Ambassadorship: Act as a primary face and voice of STS, as part of the Community Relations team. Lead prospective student and family tours and support admissions events, translating the school's mission, values, and vibrant culture into personal, impactful experiences.

· Authentic Storytelling and Content Creation: Source, capture, write, photograph, and distribute engaging marketing and communications content for social media, mass emails, and newsletters. Prioritize high-quality, agile smartphone capture to share the authentic daily STS experience with current and prospective community members.

· Website Stewardship: Maintain a fresh, engaging, and user-friendly "digital front door." Manage regular content updates, ensure user-centric design principles are met, and execute basic technical troubleshooting to ensure a seamless digital user experience for prospective families.

· Campaign and Project Coordination: Plan, coordinate, and implement marketing and advertising bookings. Collaborate closely with the broader Community Relations team to ensure digital storytelling campaigns directly align with real-world recruitment and enrollment strategies.

· Community and Event Support: Build and maintain strong professional relationships across the school's network. Attend and support scheduled school events outside of standard working hours to capture live content and engage with community stakeholders in real-time.

Qualifications and Experience

· Post-secondary education in communications, journalism, marketing, public relations, digital media, or a related field.

· Minimum of two (2) years of professional experience in a recruitment, marketing, or communications role, with a proven track record of balancing both technical workflows and creative, people-centric tasks.

· Deep operational understanding of major social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube) and their strategic use in community building, storytelling, and recruitment.

· Experience managing Web Content Management Systems (CMS) with a strong understanding of website usability. Basic familiarity with programming languages (HTML, CSS) for backend updates is highly valued.

· Proficiency with Canva and the Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Premiere). Strong baseline photography and videography skills, alongside comfort using mobile photo/video editing software.

· Familiarity with the Canadian independent/private school market is considered a strong asset.

· A highly self-motivated and curious problem solver and organized planner who takes initiative, anticipates project needs, and efficiently manages competing priorities with minimal supervision.

· Exceptional relationship-building skills with the ability to establish trust, project enthusiasm for the institution, and deliver a high standard of customer service to prospective families, students, colleagues, and alumni.

· Ability to see how a seamless digital user experience, social media storytelling, and face-to-face interactions connect to form a cohesive customer journey that achieves broader organizational goals.

· A flexible team player who thrives in an active, fast-paced environment and can pivot easily from technical desk tasks to energetic public interaction.

· Advanced copywriting and editing abilities, with a demonstrated capacity to adapt tone appropriately between real-time digital platforms and formal print media.

· Ability to receive, assess, and integrate feedback from diverse constituent groups while maintaining tact, diplomacy, and confidentiality.

· A drive to learn from global and Canadian independent school best practices, using that inspiration to differentiate STS's voice in the marketplace.

· Ability to work in-person full-time within established campus office hours, with the flexibility for occasional evenings and weekends to support school community events (this position does not offer a remote work option).

· Demonstrate and uphold a commitment to occupational health and safety.

Application Instructions

Applications must contain a cover letter, your resume, and the names and contact information for three work-related references, one of which must be a direct supervisor (your references will not be contacted without your prior consent). All applications must be submitted as one PDF document.

Please submit your application through our recruitment module at https://recruiting.ultipro.ca/STR5005STCN

Applications will be reviewed as received and interested applicants are strongly encouraged to apply early as the position may be filled as soon as a qualified candidate is selected.

Strathcona-Tweedsmuir School is an equal opportunity employer and provides a welcoming environment for all employees and encourages diversity among staff and students as part of our commitment to the Alberta Human Rights Act.
