Term: 1 yearJob Description:Primary PurposeThe position serves as an educational development resource for faculty and academic partners, providing expertise in teaching, learning, course design, assessment, and educational technologies. The role supports the development of effective, inclusive, and evidence-informed teaching practices through consultation, faculty development programming, applied research, and participation in institutional teaching and learning initiatives.Key AccountabilitiesPedagogical and Instructional SupportAdvise instructors on course design, assessment, and teaching practices using established frameworks and best practicesSupport the application of pedagogical approaches across a range of disciplinesGuide instructors in aligning learning outcomes, activities, and assessment strategies to support course designProvide consultation and practical guidance on teaching and learning practices, approaches, and resources.Adapt and tailor teaching and learning resources and tools to meet instructor and program needsFaculty DevelopmentOrganize/Develop and Lead University-wide workshops and training sessions on core teaching and learning topicsProvide one-on-one and small group consultations to instructors to support teaching development?Contribute to faculty development programming through the design and facilitation of learning experiences for instructors.Contribute to the systematic evaluation and enhancement of learning offerings to ensure effectiveness, relevance and impact.Course and Courseware DesignGuide the development and revision of course materials and assessmentsProvide consultation and support to instructors on the effective use of learning management systems and educational technologies to enhance teaching and learningIntegrate inclusive and accessible design principles into initiatives in collaboration with academic partnersParticipate in course design projects, contributing subject matter expertise in teaching, learning, and educational development.Research and Evidence-Informed PracticeApply established teaching and learning research to practiceEngage in applied research and evaluation activities to support continuous improvement and evidence-informed decision-making Perform data collection, analysis, and reportingStay current with emerging trends in higher education pedagogyRecommends best practices and supports continuous improvement through the integration of research, evaluation findings, and sector trendsProjects and Institutional InitiativesContribute to projects and institutional initiatives related to teaching and learningSupport implementation activities, including resource development and coordinationParticipate in working groups and collaborative initiativesTrack progress and provide updates on assigned workCollaboration and SupervisionBuild and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.Collaborate with colleagues to support the achievement of team and organizational objectives.Serve as a resource to peers on complex or specialized matters related to the role.Provide guidance, coaching, mentorship and support to colleagues, fostering independence, professional growth, and effective problem-solving.Provide direction and support to co-op students, junior staff, or other team members, as assigned.Participate in leadership development opportunities and ongoing professional learning.Contribute to a positive, collaborative, and inclusive work environment through knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.Required QualificationsEducationMaster’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Education, Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Higher Education, or related discipline) or equivalent combination of education and experienceExperience4-6 years of experience in educational development, instructional design, or teaching in a post-secondary environmentExperience applying established pedagogical principles in course or curriculum designExperience supporting or advising instructors in a developmental or consultative capacityExperience facilitating workshops or training sessionsTeaching experience at the post-secondary level is an assetKnowledge/Skills/AbilitiesStrong understanding of teaching and learning principles in higher educationEffective communication and interpersonal skillsWorkshop facilitation and presentation skillsOrganizational and project coordination skillsAbility to work both independently and collaborativelyProficiency with learning management systems and educational technologiesAwareness of disciplinary contexts and inclusive teaching practicesEquity StatementThe University of Waterloo acknowledges that much of our work takes place on the traditional territory of the Neutral, Anishinaabeg, and Haudenosaunee peoples.
