Job description
FUNCTION & DUTIES:

Under the supervision of the Nunavik Sivunitsavut coordinator, the social service officer will work closely with the coordinator, the academic counsellor, and the students in order to create favourable conditions for students' psychosocial development and post-secondary success.

  • Evaluate students who have social, personal, and school problems.
  • Organize individual student support meetings.
  • Organize behaviour management and other workshops.
  • Take action to help defuse crisis or emergency situations.
  • Take part in team meetings to ensure appropriate follow-up for students.
  • Support teachers and other interveners to meet the students' needs.
  • Take part in the development and facilitation of awareness and prevention programs.
  • Work with partner organizations' representatives.
  • Advise management personnel.
  • Prepare evaluation, situation, and other reports.
  • Carry out all other related tasks, as determined by the coordinator.


QUALIFICATIONS:

First level university degree in a relevant specialization.

The School Board may, at its discretion, waive any or all of the afore-mentioned qualifications if it finds a suitable candidate who is a beneficiary of the James Bay and Northern Québec Agreement (JBNQA) and who accepts, as a condition of employment, to follow a training plan determined by the Board.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Fluency in two (2) of the three (3) languages of the School Board (Inuktitut, English, and French) is required.
  • Experience in youth centres, youth detention centres, or detoxification centres will be considered an asset.
  • Any northern or intercultural experience will be considered an asset.


WORK SCHEDULE:

Regular daily schedule on-site with off-site visits and trips outside of regular hours as needed to support students.

CLASSIFICATION / SALARY / BENEFITS:

In accordance with the SPPENOM collective agreement for professionals. This position belongs to job category 2149; from $56,670 to $100,410 annually depending on qualification and experience.
