Job description

Our large Oil & Gas industry client is seeking a Security Awareness & Social Engineering Specialist to support the development and maturity of a social engineering program.

Contract duration: 1-year initial contract with a possibility of extension

Working model: % remote contract within MST hours (ideal candidate will be Calgary based and open to a hybrid working model)

Must-Haves:

  • 4+ years of proven experience in social engineering, security awareness, cybersecurity, or human risk management.
  • Experience designing, implementing, and managing enterprise-scale social engineering or security awareness programs.
  • Hands-on experience planning and executing phishing simulations and other social engineering assessments.
  • Experience analyzing behavioral and security metrics to measure program effectiveness and identify trends.
  • Strong understanding of modern social engineering techniques, including phishing, vishing, smishing, and AI-enabled threats.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and reporting skills with the ability to communicate insights to technical and executive audiences.

Nice-to-Haves:

  • Experience with human risk management or security awareness platforms.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity governance, risk management, and security operations.
  • Experience working with third-party security vendors and simulation platforms.
  • Familiarity with executive dashboard development and security metrics reporting.
  • Relevant cybersecurity certifications (e.g., Security+, CISSP, CISM, or similar).
  • Understanding of change management and behavior change methodologies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and mature an enterprise-wide human risk reduction and social engineering program aligned with evolving cyber threats.
  • Design and execute multi-channel social engineering simulations, including phishing, vishing, smishing, and emerging attack methods.
  • Create realistic, role-based simulation scenarios that reflect current threat actor techniques and organizational risk profiles.
  • Establish program governance, operating models, standards, and best practices to ensure consistent execution and continuous improvement.
  • Coordinate simulation activities across internal teams, third-party vendors, and security stakeholders.
  • Evaluate simulation outcomes and related incidents, incorporating lessons learned into awareness initiatives and program enhancements.
  • Partner with security awareness teams to deliver targeted training and behavioral interventions based on simulation results.
  • Develop and maintain metrics, dashboards, and executive reporting to measure human risk, program effectiveness, and behavioral trends.
  • Analyze user behavior data to identify risks, provide actionable insights, and support data-driven decision-making.
