Join BDO’s Forensic Disputes & Investigation (“FDI”) team in Calgary or Vancouver and apply your classroom learning to complex, real-world business and legal challenges.This is a net new role and as a Co-op Student or Intern, you will:Develop a forensic mindset, learning how to detect patterns, identify red flags, and connect financial, operational, and legal evidence.Strengthen your financial modeling skills in Excel, working on loss quantification, economic analyses, and scenario-based models.Gain hands-on exposure to fraud investigations, commercial insurance claims, and litigation support files.Grow your communication, client service, and teamwork skills by collaborating with experienced professionals and clients across Western Canada and nationally.This is a unique opportunity to explore the world of investigative and forensic accounting while being mentored by a high-performing national team of specialists.What you’ll be doingYou will be an integral part of our dedicated team providing investigative, litigation support, and insurance advisory services. In this role, you will:Support relationships with BDO’s current and prospective clients.Actively participate in discussions and meetings with engagement teams to plan work, perform tasks, and deliver excellent client service.Work with the engagement team on FDI matters such as:Forensic investigations: Fraud, corruption, money laundering, and misappropriation of assets.Commercial insurance claims: Economic analysis of business interruption, product loss, and cyber claims.Litigation support: Accounting analysis related to shareholder disputes, breach of contracts, commercial and intellectual property matters, construction disruption and delay claims, and accounting/financial reporting disputes.Examine financial records and documentation, analyze financial data, build financial models, and summarize key observations.Conduct economic and industry research to support engagements.Contribute to the preparation of financial and loss quantification models used by the team in forensic analyses.Assist in drafting clear, concise reports and presentations for clients.Develop relationships with peers within BDO and externally with clients and prospective clients.Support business development activities and internal practice initiatives.How we define success in this roleSuccess in this role is about both your contribution and your growth:You live BDO’s core values in all aspects of your work: Integrity, Respect & Collaboration.You bring a positive, professional mindset and consistently deliver high-quality work.You focus on effective, timely service delivery on assigned tasks and look for ways to improve processes and outcomes.You contribute to an inclusive, engaging work environment.You actively adopt digital tools, data analytics, and innovative approaches to enhance how we work.You invest in your own development through ongoing learning and professional growth.Your experience and educationYou’ll be most successful in this role if you:Are enrolled in a post-secondary program specializing in Accounting, Finance, Business or related fields, with the intention of pursuing the CPA designation.Have a strong interest in building a career in Investigative and Forensic Accounting.Have a genuine desire to provide outstanding client service and a willingness to help wherever needed.Can work independently, while also contributing effectively in a team environment.Bring strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with curiosity and attention to detail.Have excellent communication skills, and can articulate ideas clearly in both written and verbal formats.Can prioritize competing deliverables and manage varying deadlines.Are proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, and eager to deepen your technical skills.Have experience or a strong interest in using data analytics tools.
