This role will involve planning and executing geotechnical investigations, permafrost characterization and assessment, foundation engineering, earthworks design, and construction support services. Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop foundation, embankment, road, airfield, and earth structure recommendations for northern infrastructure projects.
  • Support the design of mitigation measures for permafrost-related risks.
  • Coordinate and oversee drilling, instrumentation installation, and field testing programs.
  • Perform site inspections and provide construction monitoring and quality assurance services.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including civil, environmental, hydrotechnical, transportation, and structural engineers.
  • Assist with proposal preparation, project planning, budgeting, and client communication.
  • Mentor junior staff and provide technical guidance as required.
  • Travel periodically to remote and northern project locations.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Canada, or eligible for registration within a reasonable timeframe.
  • 6 years of relevant geotechnical engineering experience.

  • Strong technical writing and communication skills.
  • Experience working with drilling contractors and managing field programs.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree specializing in Geotechnical Engineering and/or Cold Regions Engineering.
  • Experience with permafrost investigations and cold regions engineering.
  • Familiarity with northern infrastructure projects in Yukon, Northwest Territories, Nunavut, northern British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, or Manitoba.
  • Knowledge of thermal monitoring systems, thermistor installations, and permafrost instrumentation.
  • Experience assessing thaw settlement, frost heave, and permafrost-related geohazards.
  • Understanding of climate resilience and adaptation measures for northern infrastructure.
  • Experience using geotechnical software for settlement, slope stability, and thermal analyses.
  • Project management and client-facing experience.
