Position summary

As the Vice President (VP) Business Unit Head (BUH) for Vaccines you will lead and have ultimate accountability for our largest business unit in Canada.

This complex role provides leadership and direction across multiple teams and at an enterprise level. The role sits on the Canada Country Leadership Team and reports to the General Manager Canada who reports to the Head of International Region then to the CEO.

This is a third-line leadership role with direct management responsibility for 100 people across sales and marketing with six direct reports.

The BUH sets the long-term vision and strategy for the business executing on a portfolio of market-leading vaccines brands at the provincial government level as well as in the private market.

The role leads Marketing Customer Engagement/Sales and Operations teams and partners with Medical Market Access Finance Legal Insights & Analytics and the Global Product Strategy teams in Vaccines to align on forecasting pricing and strategic imperatives to deliver business results through ensuring access to our vaccines for the patients who need them.

This is primarily an office-based position at the GSK Canada HQ in Mississauga Ontario with flexibility for some remote working and travel across the country as required.


Key responsibilities

  • Lead motivate and inspire the Business Unit to ensure our vaccines get to the people who need them across Canada as quickly as possible.

  • Ensure delivery of the portfolio P&L performance. This includes planning implementing and monitoring commercialization strategies (marketing sales and cross-functional).

  • Member of Canada Leadership Team and therefore responsible for driving the strategic and operational focus for the company.

  • Be Ambitious for Patients: Set challenging and ambitious targets for the team which will improve the lives of people across Canada and drive growth for the company. Recognise and celebrate success along the journey to achieving the ambition.

  • Be obsessively externally focused: Understand industry & market dynamics; anticipate analyse and identify current & future market opportunities and their potential impact on GSK. Spend significant amount of time in field and with customers to drive insights and develop key relationships.

  • Be Accountable for Impact: Develop and implement brilliant Brand Strategies which drive growth focusing on key cross-functional activities or big bets. Ensure effective measures are in place to track progress identify gaps and implement accelerated improvements.

  • Take active role in driving market access plans for brands in the portfolio including national recommendations.

  • Drive disciplined execution of the BU strategy in line with the Brand Plan. Set trimester execution sprint plans to drive pace.

  • Ensure that differentiated Performance is actively managed across the Business unit; recognising our top performers and supporting members of the team who are not reaching performance expectations.

  • Do the Right Thing: ensure compliance and adherence to the highest ethical standards and consistent communication of ethical image and position.

  • Attract and retain the best talent in the industry to work in the BU. Lead a culture in line with GSK cultural pillars which is able to harness the power of Inclusion.

Skills & experience required

This critical role requires an accomplished strategic commercial operating executive from the pharmaceutical/vaccines industry with an outstanding record of accomplishment in building and leading high-performance commercial organizations. You must possess proven operating/P&L experience including demonstrated success in managing scale and complexity.

A solid understanding of the industrys complex regulatory market access and commercial requirements with an absolute commitment to competing on the highest ethical level are essential.


Basic qualifications

  • BA/BSc degree.

  • Minimum 10 years of commercial experience in vaccines pharmaceuticals or healthcare with progressive leadership roles.

  • Large-scale in-country operational commercial leadership experience of both sales and marketing personnel in a Business Unit / Franchise head role or as a General Manager.

  • Experience in leading GP/Specialty product sales.

  • Financial acumen including P&L responsibility budgeting and forecasting.

  • Proven experience of leading and inspiring a direct-line team through periods of change.

  • Fluency in English.


Preferred qualifications

  • Masters degree MBA or post-graduate qualification(s) in business management sales/marketing and/or leadership.

  • In depth knowledge and understanding of the healthcare industry.

  • Experience in vaccines policy immunization programs or government contracting.

  • Experience with market access pricing and tender processes

  • Evidence of managing strategic and operating plans using Strong data-driven decision-making skills and analytics to guide strategy.

  • Proven ability to influence change at the enterprise level.

  • Experience/understanding of the Canadian healthcare market.

  • French language skills.
