We are a fully delegated Indigenous Child and Family Service Society providing programs and services to Indigenous children, youth, and families on and off reserve within Stó:lō Territory in the Fraser Valley between Yale First Nation and Surrey BC.

Our programs and services are created and delivered with the support of our Elders Advisory Council with special attention on strengthening culture and identity, while honoring the strength of families.

We strive to work in a holistic way to keep families together and reintegrate children back with their families and extended families.

Director of Community Partnerships (DOCP) -

Full-Time Permanent Position- Chilliwack

Salary- $97, to $, per annum (35 Hours Per Week)

POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Executive Director Staff and Community Relations, the Director of Community Partnerships (DOCP) will lead the important work of growing, developing and nurturing our relationships with our Community Partners in a manner that fosters trust, engagement, and strong working relationships.

The DOCP will guide multiple teams to do work in a good way based on the teachings and guidance of our Elders, and the expectations of our communities. They will provide support to Teams and Baskets working with communities in the service delivery area to ensure work is done collaboratively and respectful of the wishes of the community.

Xyólheméylh is proud to have an Elders Advisory Council to ensure that culture is embedded throughout the Society ensuring the goals, missions and values are upheld in a good way. This position is expected to work in Lets'emót – to be of one heart and one mind.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Lead the execution of strategic initiatives aimed at engaging our community stakeholders, leaders and other partners.
  • Provide leadership to foster a motivated team capable of achieving high performance standards and Community Engagement initiatives.
  • Plan, implement, and manage a multidisciplinary team focusing on effective execution and impact
  • Actively participate at the Leadership Circle, including strategic planning, employee development, change management, and other leadership activities.
  • Partner with the Finance Team to ensure team follows all Finance Policies and Procedures at all times
  • Partner with the HR team to ensure all team members receive proper training and adhere to relevant policies and Collective Agreement
  • Establish performance expectations, evaluate performance, and provide coaching and disciplinary actions
  • Provide perspective and insight to other teams and Leadership to allow them to make well informed decisions based on the expertise of the Community Engagement Team.
  • Responsible for workload assignments and communicating instructions and expectations to team members.
  • Communicating interpretations and instructions regarding cultural competency policy intent, Society mandate, philosophy, Acts, regulations, and procedures to team members
  • Provide leadership and support to allow the liaising with First Nations, Metis, and Indigenous urban communities throughout the service area (Langley to Hope), as well as other provincial, federal, and municipal agencies, and special interest groups as necessary to support enhanced service delivery and community development initiatives
  • Conducting public speaking engagements to raise the Society’s profile
  • Working with Nations and supporting the work of the EDOSCR to develop Sec 92 agreements.
  • Directs and oversees the integration and delivery of community relations programming
  • Develop strategy and process to coordinate a comprehensive urban stakeholder engagement and asset/gap analysis process
  • Analyzing the data and making recommendations to collaborate with community and other organizations
  • Develop strategies, processes and measures to define doing Community Engagement Work in a good way
  • Provide strategic plans that will ensure the requirements of serviced communities are met and services continue to enhance support provided
  • Prioritize resources to support the highest needs of communities and partners
  • Set priorities for the Basket to ensure highest needs and greatest impact changes are made

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

1) Technical experience requirements:

  • In-depth knowledge of AOPSI and Society’s policies, procedures, and practice manuals.
  • In depth knowledge of CFCSA and other related legislation
  • Knowledge and appreciation of Indigenous culture and history
  • Knowledge of general Human Resource practice and performance management
  • Experience in working with Indigenous communities and aboriginal organizations mandated to provide health, counseling and child and family services
  • Experience working with MCFD or other provincial child welfare delegated agency

2) Technical skill requirements:

  • Strong research skills to understand indigenous community needs in accordance with the Child, Family and Community Service Act (CFCSA), the FVACFSS Policies and Procedures Manuals, and other relevant provincial and federal related Indigenous Policies and Practice Standards.
  • Ability to engage with community members to gather insights, foster community involvement in planning processes, and develop strategic plans to ensure compliance to uphold the rights and traditions of Indigenous communities.
  • Computer literacy on MS word, Excel, MIS system, Unification
  • Ability to write detailed reports
  • Ability to track and manage financial expenditure
  • Demonstrated strong facilitation and mapping skills

3) Education requirements:

  • MSW, BSW or BA Child and Youth Care, Psychology, Indigenous Studies or other human services.
  • 5 years’ relevant experience, including 2 years managing people and resources.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
  • Management and or Leadership training.
  • 2 to 5 years’ experience providing Management and Clinical Supervision is preferred

4) Other:

  • Valid Drivers license
  • Criminal Record Check
  • Willingness to travel for work related purposes
