Job Description

As a Director of Utilities, you will lead the planning, design, and execution of Transmission & Distribution (T&D) projects, ensuring compliance with utility regulations and alignment with client objectives. You will be responsible for managing large-scale projects, providing technical leadership, and driving business development efforts within the utilities and energy sectors.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement project and program plans in collaboration with clients and key stakeholders.
• Plan, coordinate, and manage personnel, materials, and resources for successful project execution.
• Create and maintain resource allocation strategies to manage workloads, budgets, and project priorities.
• Lead project execution and ensure delivery aligns with approved plans, schedules, and objectives.
• Monitor project scope, timelines, and budgets to ensure compliance with targets.
• Identify project risks and develop mitigation strategies and contingency plans.
• Track and report project performance against requirements, milestones, budgets, and KPIs.
• Prepare and deliver project updates, proposals, presentations, and status reports.
• Lead negotiations related to project scope changes and manage associated impacts.
• Oversee quality assurance activities and resolve quality-related issues.
• Establish project success criteria and communicate expectations throughout the lifecycle.
• Identify opportunities to expand business with existing clients and develop new client acquisition strategies.
• Collaborate with utility providers, regulators, and stakeholders to align project outcomes with industry requirements.
• Support the integration of renewable energy resources into T&D networks.
• Oversee implementation of technologies such as smart grids, SCADA systems, and energy storage solutions.
• Conduct risk assessments related to grid reliability, system resilience, and load forecasting.
• Provide technical leadership, guidance, and mentorship to project teams.

Essential Skills

• Minimum 12 years of project management experience, with at least 5 years in T&D or related infrastructure projects.
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• Project Management Professional (PMP) designation required.
• Strong knowledge of T&D systems, including planning, design, construction, operation, and maintenance.
• Experience managing large capital projects while balancing client objectives, regulatory requirements, and project constraints.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and project management software applications.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Professional Engineer ( designation considered an asset.
• Demonstrated success identifying and developing business opportunities within the utilities and energy sectors.
• Familiarity with industry standards and regulations, including IEEE and NERC.
• Experience with grid modernization initiatives, renewable energy integration, and energy efficiency programs.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to engage and collaborate effectively with clients, contractors, regulators, and cross-functional teams.

Work Environment

This role offers a hybrid work arrangement with a combination of office and remote work. The role is based out of the Richmond Hill Office with options to work from the Downtown Toronto Office and occasionally from the Hydro One office in Downtown Toronto. The candidate will be expected to be on site during project delivery phases and travel frequently across Canada for client visits and industry events. Core working hours are 9am - 3pm, with flexibility to complete additional hours independently.

Job Type & Location

This is a Permanent position based out of Richmond Hill, ON.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $200000.00 - $250000.00/yr.
