Job description

Experience Aviva. Our values — Care, Commitment, Community, and Confidence — guide how we show up for each other and for our customers. Individually, they’re words. Together, they define who we are.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the VP, Enterprise Transformation, the AVP, Change Practice plays a critical leadership role in ensuring Aviva Canada has the change delivery capabilities required to successfully execute its transformation agenda. This role oversees the project management, business analysis, and change management communities, ensuring the organization has access to high‑performing talent to support delivery across a complex and evolving portfolio.

Acting as a trusted partner to senior leaders, the AVP is responsible for workforce planning, capability development, resource deployment, supplier management, and financial stewardship of the Change Practice. This role combines strategic workforce leadership with operational execution and requires strong people leadership, commercial acumen, and a passion for developing high‑performing teams.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead the project management, business analysis, and change management communities across the Transformation function.
  • Develop workforce strategies that ensure delivery teams have the capacity and capabilities required to support the enterprise change portfolio.
  • Oversee resource planning, deployment, and utilisation across a diverse portfolio of transformation initiatives.
  • Build and maintain a high‑performing, scalable workforce through effective recruitment, talent management, and succession planning.
  • Establish career pathways, capability development programs, and communities of practice that strengthen change delivery capabilities.
  • Manage relationships with consulting partners, contingent workforce providers, and other external delivery suppliers.
  • Drive consistency in delivery standards, methodologies, tools, and professional practices across the Change Practice.
  • Partner with Finance, HR, Procurement, Technology, and business leaders to align workforce strategies with organisational priorities.
  • Provide leadership and insights on workforce performance, capability needs, and resource planning decisions.
  • Continuously improve workforce management practices, operational effectiveness, and employee experience across the Change Practice.
  • Continuously improve the ways we capture, interpret, and communicate change performance across the enterprise.

What You’ll Bring

  • Experience leading large project management, business analysis, change management, or transformation practices.
  • Strong understanding of workforce planning, resource management, and organisational capability development.
  • Experience building and leading high‑performing teams in complex and fast‑paced environments.
  • Strong commercial and financial management skills, including budget management and supplier oversight.
  • Experience managing external partners, contingent workforce providers, and professional services engagements.
  • Ability to balance strategic workforce planning with day‑to‑day operational leadership.
  • Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills, including experience working with senior executives.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Proven ability to drive organisational change, capability development, and continuous improvement.
  • A collaborative leadership style with a strong focus on accountability, talent development, and business outcomes.

What You’ll Get

  • The salary band for this position ranges from $160,000 to $185,000. Individual salary is determined by factors such as job‑related knowledge, skills and experience, as well as internal equity.
  • A compelling rewards package including base compensation, eligibility for annual bonus, retirement savings, share plan, health benefits, personal wellness, and volunteer opportunities.
  • Hybrid flexible work model.
  • Outstanding career development opportunities.
  • Support for your professional development education.
  • A competitive vacation package with the option to purchase 5 extra days off per year.
  • Employee‑driven programs focused on gender, LGBTQ+ origins, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Corporate wellness programmes to support our employees’ physical and mental health.
