Indigenous Pathways Program

The Indigenous Pathways Program is a 9-month, paid, full-time career launchpad designed to empower First Nations, Inuit, and Métis storytellers. From October 2026 to June 2027, you will gain specialized training in multimedia journalism—covering everything from ethics to story development—alongside immersive, hands-on work experience and dedicated career mentorship. Program Structure:

Over nine months, you will engage in a guided professional journey designed to accelerate your growth as a journalist:

  • October | Immerse yourself in CBC culture, connect with your cohort, and learn the landscape of the national broadcaster.

  • November–December | : Participate in intensive training to sharpen your craft, identify core strengths, and build your personalized development roadmap.

  • January–June | : Step into the field and gain real-world experience, producing impactful stories directly within a fast-paced CBC newsroom.

  • March–June | : Integrate your learnings to refine your professional vision, showcase your unique voice, and explore long-term career opportunities at CBC.

This position can be based in Kelowna, Kamloops, Prince George, Prince Rupert, Vancouver or Victoria. This role requires full time on site presence.

The Indigenous Pathways program provides comprehensive journalism training, career development support, and immersive work experience.

CBC Indigenous Pathways is for you if:

  • You are ready to launch your career as a First Nations, Inuit, or Métis journalist.

  • You possess a drive for multimedia storytelling across audio, video, and text.

  • You are deeply connected to your community and eager to amplify its stories.

  • You want to immerse yourself in a fast-paced newsroom to gain practical, high-impact experience.

In this program, participants will:

  • Develop skills and tools for advancing a career in journalism

  • Explore multi-platform storytelling through writing, images and sound

  • Create stories that connect with Indigenous audiences and reflect diverse perspectives

  • Grow relationships with, and be supported by, mentors, trainers, peers, and Indigenous CBC colleagues

We are looking for a candidate with the following:

  • First Nations, Inuk or Métis with a connection to an Indigenous nation or community

  • Aspiring to develop a career with the CBC

  • Able to provide storytelling examples and ideas

  • A collaborative and principled storyteller with strong critical thinking skills.
