Job description

Term of App't: Temporary, relief on call - maximum of 7 hours per day

Start date: To be determined

Reporting to: Campus Administrator

Salary:

Classification 17, $32.73 - $33.74 per hour in accordance with the BCGEU Support Collective Agreement. Temporary employees also receive an additional $0.58 per hour in lieu of benefits, and 6% vacation pay is paid out with each pay.

Description:

This position will provide relief for our regular staff during times of vacation, illness, etc. Hours will fluctuate, but will normally take place Monday - Friday, with a maximum daily of 7 hours, and will serve both the Dawson Creek and Fort St John housing complexes.

The Student Housing Manager will oversee all aspects of the day-to-day operations of the housing including room assignments and building access, rent collections, communication/liaison with residents (verbal and written), assessing maintenance requirements (including furniture replacement), working within budget guidelines, and processing financial requests (purchase orders, cheque requisitions, and VISA reconciling), record keeping, and postal services. Responsible for informing residents of the expectations of living in Student Housing, ensuring compliance with housing contracts and policies, and administering disciplinary measures according to the "Student Housing Handbook", while promoting an environment that develops a sense of community and enhances student housing life. As the primary person in student housing responsible for student life; you will be a leader to the Student Housing Assistants and will onboard new hires and provide them with direction and support during their contract. This position will also work with all NLC departments and maintain relationships with other government agencies and companies in the community.

Qualifications:

A minimum Grade 12 education is required with a diploma in business management, property management, project management or a similar area of study. The successful candidate will have a minimum of two years of work experience in management and/or public administration (property/hotel/hospitality/conference services) with supervision experience. A combination of education and experience may be considered. Excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication (both written and oral), and conflict resolution skills are required. As well, the ability to work within a team environment is essential. Must be proficient in the use of computers for data entry and word processing, as well, be cognizant of the dynamics of post-secondary students. A current driver's license is required (class 7N is acceptable).
