Our client, is seeking a highly skilled Senior Software Engineer to join their core application engineering and support team.
In this senior contract role, you will play a critical part in maintaining, developing, and modernizing a robust portfolio of high-volume, containerized Java applications. You will serve as a lead technical authority, balancing active software development with high-tier production support, incident resolution, and platform security compliance. Operating within a highly flexible and collaborative ecosystem, you will partner with cross-functional developers, architects, and business systems analysts to deliver stable, secure, and performant enterprise software solutions.
Duration: 6-Month Contract (with potential for extension)
Work Arrangement: 95% Remote (Occasional onsite attendance required for key training, alignment workshops, or collaborative team sessions at the local office hub)
Work Hours: Flexible start schedule between 7:00 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. (Standard 7.5-hour workday)

ResponsibilitiesApplication Support, Analysis & Recovery
Production Stability & Support: Provide ongoing high-tier support for Java-based applications in production and test environments—responding to service requests, leading incident and problem analysis, and driving rapid service restoration.
Security & Vulnerability Management: Conduct proactive security vulnerability remediation, participate in compliance audits, and generate operational status reports.
Continuous Improvement: Enable platform stability through proactive monitoring, robust change management controls, system upgrades, and disaster recovery simulation projects.
Software Engineering & API Development
Java Development & Design: Participate in the design, development, testing, and debugging of Java services and web interfaces, utilizing modern frameworks and container deployments.
Modern Container Pipelines: Deploy and orchestrate services using Kubernetes containers and Docker virtualization.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Interface with other Software Engineers, Business Systems Analysts, and business stakeholders to translate operational needs into secure, production-ready code.
QualificationsExperience: Minimum 10+ years of progressive professional experience in IT, specifically focused on Java application support, analysis, and software development.
Core Java & Backend Mastery (10+ Years):
Deep, referenceable command of Java, Java Enterprise Edition (J2EE) technologies (Servlet, JDBC, JSP), and the Spring Framework.
Solid understanding of structural enterprise methodologies, including ITIL, CMMI, and Software Development Life Cycles (SDLC).
Comprehensive command of web development languages, including JavaScript, HTML, XML, and CSS.
Modern Frameworks & Containerization (4+ Years):
Practical, hands-on experience developing with ReactJS (React.js) frontend libraries.
Deep functional knowledge of Java Spring Boot microservices architecture.
Production experience with container technologies, specifically Kubernetes and Docker.
Strong familiarity with web security standards, secure coding practices, and OWASP guidelines.
Web Services & Database Engineering:
Demonstrated experience designing and consuming SOAP, REST APIs, Java APIs, and JSON formats.
Strong database proficiency querying and managing SQL, Oracle, or PostgreSQL databases.
DevOps & Integration Tooling:
Solid configuration experience with modern CI/CD pipelines and DevOps tools, including Jenkins, Artifactory, Bitbucket/Git, Gradle, Maven, CDD, and Ansible.
Familiarity with Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) protocols.
Exposure to Kafka event-streaming and light car proxy integrations.
Education: Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or an equivalent technical or quantitative discipline.
Soft Skills: Outstanding written and verbal communication skills; a continuous learning mindset with strong analysis, debugging, and problem-solving abilities. A team player who is highly adaptable within dynamic, fast-paced enterprise environments.
Nice-to-Have Skills & Assets
Practical exposure to Agile delivery frameworks (Kanban, Scrum).
Direct experience working with cloud-hosted applications and virtual servers on Amazon Web Services (AWS).
Active exposure to team collaboration and workspace tools, such as Jira, Confluence, and MS Teams.
Knowledge of middleware technologies such as WebSphere or WebLogic.
