Highlights of the job

This role requirescertified and highly experienced Heavy Duty Mechanicwith experience withmobile equipment, medium and heavy-dutytruck chassis, trailers and unit attachments.

The position involves inspecting, overhauling, repairing, and maintaining a wide range of EPCOR fleet assets, including heavy duty trucks,and construction equipment with complex hydraulic systems and gasoline or diesel engines (e.g. aerial devices, digger derricks, dump bodies, van bodies, hydrovac/flushers, on and offroad cranes, loaders, forklifts, backhoes and skidsteers). Work is performed both in the shop and in the field using mobile service trucks.

Note: This role is eligible for EPCOR’s Employee Referral Reward Program, which offers a $500 reward for successful referrals who fulfil EPCOR’s eligibility requirements.

What you’d be responsible for

Reporting to the Manager,Fleet Maintenance Services,you will be responsible for, but not limited tothe following:

  • Repairing and performing preventative maintenance on all EPCOR fleet vehicles and equipment including but not limited to: heavy and medium duty trucks, aerial devices, radial boom digger derricks, cranes, backhoes, skid steers, vacuum trucks, trailers, forklifts and other related equipment.
  • Inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, replacing and testing:All components of engines, drivetrains, engine starting systems, and steering and braking systems,All components of clutches, hydraulic couplings, transmissions, transfer cases and axle assemblies,Suspension systems, frames, wheels and tracks,Equipment winches, power take-offs, pneumatic or hydraulic pumps, booms, cables, buckets and blades,Electrical components such as alternators, distributors, starters, relays and solenoids, etc.
  • Completing minor fiberglass repairs on various units.
  • Preparing estimates including parts and labour and completing service reports.
  • Interpreting technical manuals relating to manufacturer specifications and warranty requirements.
  • Keeping accurate and detailed records in Fleet Services Garage Management System.
  • Performing other mechanical related duties as required.

What’s required to be successful

Education & Certifications

  • Grade 12 diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Certified Journeyperson Heavy Equipment Technician with Red Seal endorsement (On-Road or Off-Road specialization accepted, where applicable).
  • Training and knowledge in: CUFC or Dealer Specific Diagnostic Software (Diamond Logix, Cummins Insite, DiagnosticLink, or Bendix) required.
  • Valid Commercial Vehicle Inspection Program (CVIP) license.
  • Possession of a Valid Alberta Class 5 with a Q endorsement Motor Vehicle Operator's License (Class 3 with a Q endorsement preferred).
  • 5+ years of experience maintaining and repairing heavy-duty trucks, commercial fleet vehicles, aerial devices, flushers, and related mobile equipment in a fleet maintenance environment.

Technical Knowhow

  • Knowledge of the theories and operating principles of spark-ignition and diesel engines, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, and heavy duty, multi-speed power trains.
  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable to the work of the trade; including appropriate use and care of hand and power tools and equipment of the trade.
  • Understanding heavy mobile vehicles and equipment, environmental and safety regulations.
  • Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions, interpret technical manuals and specifications.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 applications (including Outlook email) and the ability to use fleet management software to complete work orders.
