About Our Opportunity

Reporting to the Director of Public Safety and Policing, the Manager is accountable for providing direct human resource and budget management in the delivery of the broad range of portfolios related to safety and security, and ensuring planned outcomes are achieved.
The Manager of the Safety and Security Investigations Unit (SSIU) is responsible for the overall leadership, coordination, and operational oversight of the unit’s three core functions: Legislative Security, Corporate Security, and Public Safety Investigations. The position ensures that government employees, elected officials, and government facilities receive appropriate security services, investigations, risk assessments, and incident response support.

You are responsible for providing advice, assistance and support to ensure quality service to stakeholders, clients, Department of Justice senior management, and multiple government departments and agencies involved in public safety issues.
Further, you support the oversight and implementation of strategies and priorities at the federal/provincial/territorial tables on behalf of Nova Scotia. You oversee, assist and collaborate in the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of safety and security initiatives, legislation, policies and programs which provide or enhance public safety and security across Nova Scotia.

Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role, you possess a university degree, and/or have successfully completed law enforcement training. Alternatively, you have the education and experience in regulatory enforcement environment with several years of progressive experience in a leadership or supervisory role, or an acceptable combination of education and experience.

You have extensive knowledge and practical application of the following:

• Previous experience using a firearm,
• law enforcement principles, practices and techniques, and
• federal and provincial legislation, statutes, regulations and policies related to enforcement.

You will have strong leadership skills with effective team-building abilities, including experience developing and training staff. You have strong community awareness, with effective partnering and relationship building to communicate with internal and external stakeholders, including marginalized communities. You will have experience developing policy and procedures, and inspection reviews.

You have a professional approach to responsibilities, effective interpersonal communication, organizational skills and the ability to set priorities, as well as tact and independent judgement.

You are able to work on multiple projects simultaneously, while providing clear direction to your team. Furthermore, you are able to provide strategic advice with limited information.

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

This is a permanent full-time position located in Halifax, NS.

Pay Grade: EC 12

Salary Range: $3,929.22 - $4,911.52 Bi-Weekly
