Your role

CBC Quebec is looking for a Regional Line-up Editor to join our Montreal newsroom to develop and distribute video for digital and streaming platforms. This is a full-time, permanent position.

Our four key priorities for 2026-27 focus on increasing our relevance. We will achieve this by reaching more Canadians on multiple digital platforms, delivering the stories and formats they want, when they want them in the 24/7 news cycle. We want Montrealers, Quebecers and Canadians to spend more time with CBC content.

As CBC News prioritizes the needs of mobile phone and streaming audiences, the Regional Line-up Editor (Digital video and engagement) plays a central role in making our video meet the needs of audiences, live and on-demand.

The Regional Lineup Editor is a newsroom leader who guides journalists assigned to video stories on how to make their reports connect with digital audiences, in terms of format, framing and approach. The Regional Lineup Editor is part of a leadership team that oversees story development and distribution on digital and streaming lineups on mobile, streaming, and social platforms. Together they collaborate with 16 CBC field reporters and six digital journalists based in Montreal, and across Quebec.

This role is responsible for sharing and upholding best practices for video storytelling and for packaging and distribution of content on owned and operated and third-party platforms. You ensure our audience-facing video experiences and lineups are consistent, innovative, verified and aligned with CBC’s Journalistic Standards and Practices.

The successful candidate brings a deep understanding of audience expectations, and can clearly communicate those needs in a daily news environment. You use data and research to inform your recommendations and decisions.

This is a full-time, permanent position based in Montreal that requires a candidate who is bilingual in English and French. At the time of this posting, this is a Monday-Friday position from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Tasks:

  • Follow regional, national and international news events, relying on various sources.

  • Seek, gather, analyze, check and select reports and news items for newscasts. Look for national news items aired on the network that may have regional impact. Identify sources and check facts.

  • Attend story meetings for daily and special-event coverage. Suggest story ideas and discuss story angles with your colleagues. Prepare the newscast lineup.

  • Maintain a network of contacts.

  • Select audio and video clips. Adapt the content of these clips or reports for various newscast formats.

  • Determine story angles. Write copy, headlines and intros in the appropriate style. Prepare live reports from reporters in the field.

  • Monitor news developments with an eye on deadlines and change newscast content accordingly.

  • Vet reporters’ work prior to airing. Request changes, if necessary.

  • Determine the newscast lineup. For new media, ensure that each news item is accompanied by the necessary text (title, headlines) and audio and visual elements. For television, supervise newscast content during on-air presentation. For radio, supervise on-air presentation. In the control room, instruct and inform team members. While the newscast is airing, decide whether the lineup should be changed to reflect breaking news.

  • Advise the newsroom or website supervisor of any events that deserve special coverage.

  • After a broadcast, provide feedback to reporters and management. Review the newscast if necessary.

  • When required, help to evaluate the work of reporters and to critique newscasts.

  • File and archive aired news items and reports.

  • For new media, determine the editorial content, graphics, tables and maps needed and request them. Help develop a special coverage and layout plan, depending on the significance of news items. Ensure that the contents of the image bank, reports and hyperlinks are relevant. Help organize and participate in interactive activities (talkbacks, chats, forums).

  • Fill in as a reporter, assignment editor (regional) as needed.

  • Carry out all other related tasks as needed

Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.

Experience: Five years of experience in journalism or the equivalent.

Qualifications:

  • Extensive general knowledge.

  • In-depth knowledge of regional events and realities.

  • Fluent in the working language.

  • Excellent knowledge of the other official language.

  • Solid command of writing styles specific to the medium.

  • Thorough knowledge of newsroom logistics.

  • Knowledge of production techniques.

  • Knowledge of CBC’s journalistic standards and practices.

  • Ability to handle the demands of multiple priorities and deadlines, and proven track record of quick editorial judgment in breaking news situations.

  • Open-minded who is skilled at navigating change and promoting an inclusive and respectful workplace. Communication and feedback are central to this role.

It is your responsibility to include an up-to-date CV in your application, highlighting the qualifications and skills sought for this position
